Dallas radio legend Ron Chapman now runs his own oldies station – Platinum 96.7 – with jingles by TM Studios. Here's the ones I heard on their internet stream this morning, including a nice melodic bed that emphasises the station logo.

        Voila !

…a deejay orders a package and suddenly 'Radio' LIVES again…

        Beautiful jingles…

          “Plat-NUM” ???
When I did my Periodic Table at O-Level school Chemistry in 1969 there was an “in” in the middle of that particular element!
Slightly surprised that TM would “do a Thompson…” but we won't go back down that road.

Nice to see Ron Chapman going for his own station though – following in the footsteps of quite a few other US radio “legends” who've done just that before (e.g. Bruce Morrow).

Perhaps as Clear Channel and some of the other “over-leveraged” giant US radio conglomerates have to sell-off “properties” to even service their interest payments there may be more genuine radio people buying up stations for themselves.

Just on the subject of Ron Chapman, when we were in the control-room at JAM in Dallas, Jon Wolfert kindly showed us some video of his that he had taken of USA radio stations using JAM jingles. One of Jon`s video featured Ron Chapman on-air. It was amazing to see hundreds of JAM carts in the main studio, absolutely fascinating…

Wixy – the station came to the session, so I don't think you need worry about the pronunciation. :)

Incidentally, the cuts are all in the clear at http://www.tmstudios.com, should you want to check the full package out.

Thanks Chris – found the KONO versions, but not the KPMZ re-sing (probably me not looking properly?).

A lot of excellent jingle listening in there!

                  Iain,

                  Platinum 96.7 is under Metroplex…

KONO is a different package; you're looking for Metroplex. Which, incidentally, is a version of UnCountry – also on the jingles page. Enjoy them!

This is just a matter of 2 countries divided by a common language.

                      Platnum – Platinum

                      Aluminum – Aluminium

The sing of 'Platnum' sounds very ugly and unnatural to British ears, but fine for American

It was great that they chose an original (?) name, but guys (Americanism) I do not think it 'sings well'.

Britain is already pretty much (Americanism) swamped with American 'culture', and jingles are one area it happens in.

If I was at TM I'd send a copy of these jingles to the boss (Americanism) at Radio 2 :-)

They are Not as good as JAM, but still 'the real deal' (Americanism) !

                      Len

Thanks David & Chris (I'd never have thought of looking for “Platinum” under “Metroplex” instead of…”Platinum”!)

Regardless of other semantics, I like the current TM “sound” (for other than US Top40/urban stations that is); the prominent use of real instrumentation again (good grief – the Brass Section is alive and well!) & good clear vocals while sounding very contemporary works for me :^)

Ron does not own this station he is only the consultant. It's owned by Citadel part of the stations that got from ABC-Disney. But you do hear a lot of the old KVIL airstaff on this station…now if only he could have heller…..(long story)

Thanks Lou for the injection of accuracy!
