Does anyone have a good copy of the “Hey, look alive – everything’s moving” all male vocal group cut from #28 (I think it was done for WIGY). This cut typifies for me what the PAMS guys were all about – POWER, ENERGY and FUN! Just listen to Marv Shaw’s voice shrilling away on the “wonderful”……….magic
March 2, 2005 at 2:26 am #15428TServo2049It wasn’t WIGY…I know which cut you’re talking about, and it was for WDGY Minneapolis. And no I don’t have it in the clear, but I’m sure someone like Tracy Carman does…
March 2, 2005 at 6:19 am #15431ratnobMemberIs this the cut you mean (first bit sounds right, but it doesn’t end with “wonderful”)? Here are 2 versions – WABC and WTRY, Great 98.
March 2, 2005 at 3:06 pm #15433TServo2049WDGY’s logo went “Wonderful WDGY.” That’s the “wonderful” he remembers…

Well… Pete Wilson has already posted the cut in question… but I’ve also pulled another all-male version of the cut for WBZ and posted it for everyone’s dining and dancing pleasure at:

Enjoy.

March 2, 2005 at 6:00 pm #15439zoidyMemberAuthorWow – is this what Happiness Is? 😉 Thank you for the cut Jeffrey – yes that’s EXACTLY the cut I was talking about. I can now retire a happy man (and I’m only 34!) Thanks for all the other versions from you others too – especially TC for the WBZ cut – not heard that one before. But then again I’ve probably not heard of 90% of the entire PAMS output before…… My learning curve is long and steep…..but fun!

Well… I’m 10 years older than you are and I’ve probably heard 90% of the PAMS output… if not more. You’ll catch up. All it takes is time… and a lot of listening.
It should be noted that the Series 28 cut was normally sung by the late Al Dupree. The last time, to my knowledge, that Al sung the cut was for the Jammin’ 105 session.

Actually it’s just an excuse to show you some pics of the Pams master reels that I took last year –

And here’s the very first Series 1 (look at the date, no wonder the box is a little worn) –

The “sharpie” with the date on the box is my writing. I own those reels with the tracks from series 1-13. When the original PAMS bit the dust, the tapes were sold off at a warehouse in Dallas. While KenR purchased tons of the reference reels, he had no interest in anything pre-Series 14. Peter Kanze purchased those reels, along with all of the demo masters. I, eventually, acquired all of Peter’s reels.
When Jon started playing Humpty-Dumpty and putting all of the PAMS masters back together, I felt it was appropriate for those reels to “live” back in Dallas, and carefully bubble wrapped each reel and sent them down for safekeeping. I have decent digital transfers of the tracks and thought it was appropriate to send him the originals. I had written on some of the reels to transcribe stuff that was in grease pencil or regular pencil on the boxes… and was barely legible or fading.
As I’m sure you noticed, the spines of the boxes were rapidly turning to dust. Those reels were not treated with respect by the original PAMS. They went from Dallas to White Plains, to here in Massachusetts (where they sat in a carton for over 10 years)… and then back to Dallas.
If you are an owner of the PAMS box set of demos that were meticulously restored by Jon Wolfert, the majority of the reels pictured stacked on the graphics came from (and still live) here. The years were not kind to those reels either, and Jon spent months fixing dried out splices and removing “goop” from splices that had oozed through to other layers of the tape.
Many of the Pepper-Tanner reels are in the same condition, which makes transfer a challange. While there may be 15 minutes of material on a reel… EVERY splice is dried out and needs to be replaced. When you have, say, 50 cuts… this means a minimum of 100 splices. I spent two afternoons just trying to get a reel of 15 backing tracks in a position to be transferred to CD.
Many of the original PAMS reference reels also live in my basement. While KenR sold off many of them after making digital transfers, a good chunk of them sit on shelves, collecting dust, here at the house. They are great to refer to… but that only happens about once a year. I’m debating whether to dispose of them on eBay or just let them continue to sit, layered in dust.
Okay… enough babbling.
