Cut by cut on the website…
May 9, 2013 at 12:09 pm #90057IainJohnstonUnmistakably “JAM”, and indeed a very fresh, lighter sound, yet with “trademark” JAM distinctive brass and melodic strings
Are these then the ones brought in AFTER the uncomfortable “square peg, round hole” reelworld syndicated package, and are these currently on-air?
(And will Jon be releasing demo content of the recent WDRC & other customs soon?)

Most of them are, but five of the cuts are older (cuts 3, 5, 9, 16, and 20). In fact, judging from the reference numbers, they actually predate the cuts from the last KOST demo (Coastin’ On). And there’s also cut 4 which I don’t think was originally created for KOST, as it has a “V” reference number (possibly short for VOA?). I know I haven’t heard it used on KOST.
and are these currently on-air?
In a limited capacity, yes. Since their PD Stella Prado got fired, the jingles have been cut back drastically. But last I heard, they were using a short version of cut 10 for the main TOH, cut 17 for the Love Songs TOH, a mixout of cut 12 for weather, and some acapellas here and there.
And will Jon be releasing demo content of the recent WDRC & other customs soon?
Hopefully. I think DRC is the only one that hasn’t been released yet, unless there’s other recent customs I don’t know about. I know that KKLZ has had some of the DRC cuts resung, so it can’t be an exclusivity thing, which some people had speculated as the reasoning behind the delayed release of Pacific Coast. The front page of JAM’s website also promised “Hot new JAM releases for the AC and Classic Hits formats” a while back, and since then we’ve seen two AC packages but nothing for Classic Hits. But I’m sure Jon has his reasons for keeping things under wraps.

Great to see the package in full like this.
May 9, 2013 at 10:04 pm #90072rakMemberThanks for the heads up on the cut-by-cut demo, sounding pretty, pretty, good. Listening to Kost on the phone https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22946327/Screenshot_2013-05-09-21-48-55.png
May 10, 2013 at 2:44 pm #90080tophour_brianMemberI haven’t been a huge fan of JAM’s new packages the last few years, but I really like these. Same basic feel, but updated. Well done, Jon and crew!
July 1, 2013 at 8:19 pm #90574WAVAMember@tophour_brian Updated? There’s nothing updated about them. Yes I know Jam work to the clients brief but whats modern about these? It’s not a huge departure from the early KOST packages.
July 2, 2013 at 3:27 am #90590tophour_brianMemberOf course they’re updated. The sound is more guitar-driven, there’s very little in the way of strings (outside the Love Songs cuts) and the vocal arrangements are clearly new. A huge departure? Of course not…in an AC format, you don’t WANT huge departures. Is it an updated sound? Absolutely.

AC (and KOST) has moved on from Michael Bolton, Celine Dion, Neil Diamond, Louis Armstrong and Dan Hill. Today’s AC is Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and Kelly Clarkson. They might be more guitar driven cuts but I’m not hearing modern instrumentation in these jingles. Other companies are stealing the AC crown when it comes to fresh sounding packages for 2013.
July 2, 2013 at 2:30 pm #90601tophour_brianMemberAC (and KOST) has moved on…
I’m not saying they haven’t. But, if you look at KOST’s playlist specifically, they haven’t moved all that far, especially compared to other AC stations. That’s why these jingles, which update the sound of familiar past packages, work.
If KOST had moved even further to be more modern and more tempo-driven, like — for example, WASH in DC — then maybe one of the RW AC packages would be more appropriate. BUT, they haven’t…which is why KOST’s experiment with RW a couple years ago didn’t work.
July 2, 2013 at 2:43 pm #90602mjb1124MemberIt does seem like KOST has evolved a little more in the past 6 months. They’re still a bit older and softer skewing than most mainstream AC’s, but they’re starting to embrace the more modern pop that a lot of other AC’s are playing. They also just changed their (non-sonic) logo for the first time in ages. I agree that this jingle package was perfect for them in 2011 when it was created, but now I could see an argument for another update. I still have faith that JAM could produce something good for them, but I’m sure other companies could too. Regardless, KOST should definitely still go with a custom, and not a “one-size-fits-all” syndicated AC package like they did in 2009.
