We know that “submitting alternative logos” was part of the initial brief.
Whether the “new” logo has been quietly simmering away ready for release on “planned overlap” at this opportunity of a “top-up” only WB and the Beeb really know.
But as Mark says, 99% of the ordinary listeners may scratch their heads for a few days, but it’ll all bed in fine.
August 1, 2013 at 11:18 pm #91119mbMemberJust a case of not wanting to change too much at once so it was a phased change new production familiar logo then update with new logo and top ups
August 1, 2013 at 11:36 pm #91121GrahamCollinsIt’s quite simple – the original logo was retained to ease the audience into the new sound. Now that ‘we’ are all familiar with the sound of the station, and a year on it was time to maximise revenue by changing the logo very slightly but enough to be different every time…..pun intended.

Personally I don’t agree that the easing into the new sound was necessary when most people can’t tell the difference with the logo and actually tune in for the shows/presenters, but hey I’m just a simple listener Top ups are a good idea though.
August 2, 2013 at 12:02 pm #91128Zackybong1They’re all great! So much better than commercial. Carry on Radio 2!
August 2, 2013 at 4:32 pm #91131muffyRe; ..for example ‘Jo Riley’ as her ‘W’ is lost ! ….. the whole jingle sounds wrong .. I find the vocals are poor they sound like a jingle they should have recorded but missed it off the list , a sort of quick fix …… The end sing ” radio two” sounds off key and very negative .. not a great feel to open a show or mix in to a song ….For a national radio station its like a jingle that hospital radio stations would have made ( I know there are hospital station who get great jingles from the USA ..I dont mean you) ..
Also Kens Tracks My Years… sounds great at first .. but on a second listen …. the vocal is lost on tracks “of” my years .. and again a negative Radio TWO end sing …… Wise B must know how to make jingles .. yet most of the true USA jingle house would have these minor faults sorted before TX
Cut 22 Ken Bruce .. Sounds like Ken Brew-th … the S is lost in the music mix .. ok if they could get a sponsor of PG tips for the show ..
August 4, 2013 at 11:03 pm #91185simon_t123MemberAuthorI’d suspect as an alt-logo was specified in the brief that the original cuts form last year were sung each way, the ‘heritage’ logo style and the new logo style, it’d sound strange to over-dub a year later … the new cuts I think are just that. I think Len and others had a point on the construction of the ramp versions, Len I think felt the ‘Buble-esque’ ramp was too thick for a presenter to talk up, this certainly seems fair, however the ramp versions of the new 2013 cuts are all much thicker in terms of instrumentation than the comparatively weak ramp versions of the 2012 cuts, which sounded to me nothing more than a lite mix of the ID version stuck on the front to make a ramp, in some cases these ramps sounded just like the various layers were muted or added as the ramp runs to create these extended versions, there seemed to be no extra instrumentation or style in the original ramps …
To say they are / were not used would be incorrect, Richard Allinson for one has used the extended ramp of his presenter ID since the package first appeared, as well as tagging his name onto the shotgun version of the same cut also ! Some creative thinkers in ‘Team Allinson’ perhaps ? Another to use the full ramp certainly for over a month recently to start her show was Vanessa Feltz who welcomed listeners over an extended version of a cut whose bed starts with just the sound of Tom Toms being played … Steve Wright played the full 30 second ‘Current Pop’ ramp the otherday without talking over it, he’s also one of the only jocks to use a full variety of cuts including the classicals & shotguns (I’d been critical of him at the start for maybe not being a team player with the WB cuts) … there’s also random use of ID’s & shotguns in pre-recorded programmes where trails are played out, I think even Paul O’Grady has had some pre-rec links pasted onto ramp versions of the current ID’s …
There’s mention in several places of a Steve Lamacq show theme, but I can’t find that one anywhere …
Finally from me for the mo … ‘The Tracks Of My Years’ cut sounds totally out of place even within the 2012 package launch, it’s sung in the ‘Groove’ style where the frequency was sung first which dates it firstly, also it’s musically weak (like some of the ‘Groove’ cuts were) and the singing is not in line with current R2 imaging but full marks to the likes of Ken Bruce & Jeremy Vine for actually taking time to talk ‘jingles’ so openly at times on national radio !!!
August 5, 2013 at 9:36 pm #91204UKJinglesMemberAm I missing it but are the News and Traffic “new” cuts on the WB Site
August 5, 2013 at 9:41 pm #91205IainJohnstonunder “themes” -or the news at least was the other day
August 10, 2013 at 12:14 pm #91290muffyI see on the Wise B .. website .. thay have the audio for the ramps … But no shorter cuts ..Im sure they would help in the mix .. Simon Mayo ,Ken Bruce and the soul ramp … start the tracks on “88”…. those end sings could work …. with an end mix of the music track ..
