Overheard just after the travel at around 10:30 today (26/07) … words similar to “this expiring trafic jingle” to which Lynn Bowles & Ken went on to discuss the travel bed, Ken said “this part (fades up bed) won’t be changing” “just the beginning, by about 2 notes” to which Lynn said “you’re not supposed to say that” … Ken went on to say all the show jingles, all the travel & news etc would be changing slightly, and used the word “new” to perhaps mean that the top-ups I read about somewhere might also be making an appearance, Ken said they might be starting tomorrow (the producer they said looked blankly) and they wrapped up the jingle chat by saying possibly Monday or over the weekend …
July 26, 2013 at 11:12 am #90992NickySMemberYes they’re coming very soon! I have heard the new news and travel ones but understand on the grapevine that there are more than that.
July 26, 2013 at 12:20 pm #90993mbMemberI feel JingleMad will have a very busy thread soon
July 26, 2013 at 12:38 pm #90994GrahamCollinsTypical! Only last night I completed my Wise Buddah R2 collection and today I learn that they are being tweaked….. Interestingly the filename for the Popmaster bed on the WB website is actually labelled ‘POP BASTARD’ and frustratingly it wouldn’t play !
July 26, 2013 at 4:11 pm #90999gameswizardMemberHere’s the audio of Ken Bruce.
July 26, 2013 at 5:22 pm #91000ratnobMemberSounds fascinating …
July 26, 2013 at 5:23 pm #91001UKJinglesMemberYeah I heard they’ve had all the cuts re-done by JAM…..Or was it another “Back Hander”
to WB…
But hey I’m glad my Licence fee is going to a good cause!! )July 26, 2013 at 5:37 pm #91002LenGroatKen Bruce: “Changing all the tunes by 2 notes…..”
This suggests they have got out of the (ridiculous) deal to licence the Radio 2 ‘logo melody’ (that is costing money) from the company who put the vitriolic post on-line when they ‘lost’ the gig as they would not accept the BBC’s terms.
As has been noted on here the live v/o’s on the News jingle don’t work/fit so perhaps they are sorting that too?
Pete Wilson: “I heard they’ve had all the cuts re-done by JAM….”
They certainly SHOULD do this as the vocals (and sad attempt at Sonovox) are very inconsistent!
Overall it’s a ‘poor show’ when ‘award winning jingles that took 2 years to commission/make have to be re-done so quickly?
July 26, 2013 at 7:12 pm #91004mbMemberOr part of a planned evolution so as Alan Partridge would say they are “evolving” not “revolving”
Damned if you do and damned if you don’t – don’t change the jingles and you get slated change them and you do!!!
As sure an Night turns to Day Len you are going to hate them.I too would reckon on the first point re logo melody as yes frankly each time they play it, or want to do something with it, they have to ask and pay. A logo on the new deal would keep lots of £££’s in the BBC and help the station get more regular budget for imaging updates as it self funds.
And as much as we may hate that model I suspect it won’t change and when you look at the budget cuts required at least this way you can keep sung idents on the station.Just throwing it out there that maybe it has all been planned from day one so that the change of jingles and logo was not all done in one go and that the award winning jingles were made with this mind. Then the change looks phased and well planned rather than a “poor show”. It’s a matter of perspective!
I think the news jingle works well – I sense some are pre-recorded ( Paul O-Grady ) but it does what it was supposed to allow the presenters and the news to more seamlessly run together. News idents with presenters talking to the bed has always been fraught with the odd difficulty
July 26, 2013 at 10:21 pm #91005simon_t123MemberAuthorit must be about a year now that we’ve had the WB ID’s on R2 ? perhaps the ‘heritage’ logo business was for a fixed period of 1 year ? option of renewal or something ? the original pitch for the package specified that interested producers create demo’s for the existing / current R2 logo and an alternate logo presumably of the producers choice … I never thought the current ID’s were that similar to anything GROOVE produced to warrant ongoing fees ? it wasn’t a blatant rip surely ? and who owns a logo anyway, R2 had the GROOVE material with updates on-air for a long, long time, ok GROOVE lost the pitch but they must have made a buck or thou’ !!! it’s evolution as someone put it here as we hear these things change, the WB sound for R2 grew on me pretty much instantly actually but yet I still love JAM & TM, there is not much room for comparison & as such it’s perhaps not fair to compare old to new, if as in the case of Tony Blackburn’s POTP some JAM was commissioned to work in amongst the 80’s / 90’s tracks played on the show then all the better I feel, it can be a tad disjointed not to be all JAM or all WB but the thing is it’s authentic in the case of the JAM material in use on that show, the WB stuff seems to work for R2 on the whole in the here & now … granted news I was never really keen on but now I’m really wondering what the new R2 logo will sound like, how the new cuts & reworked cuts will sound & more importantly … how to obtain these cuts from the ‘ether’ lols
July 27, 2013 at 11:45 am #91020Dazza64Will be interesting to switch on the radio Monday morning … Chalks, can I ask please where you found the Popmaster bed on the WB website??? It doesn’t appear to be with all the other Radio 2 jingles? Thanks!!
July 28, 2013 at 6:40 pm #91043GrahamCollinsThe Popmaster bed doesn’t play on the WB website so I lifted it from here…….

July 28, 2013 at 7:22 pm #91047scotronMemberActually can’t find the Popmaster bed on WB and I am sure it was there the other day…Anyway, any more news on the ‘tweak’ of Radio jingles?
July 28, 2013 at 7:59 pm #91049Dazza64Thanks for the Earshot Creative Review link!
July 28, 2013 at 8:40 pm #91050mbMemberWell from all the bits of information in the public realm:
They start very soon
There is a new logo replacing the GA B-B-C Radio 2 sung logo which Radio 2 had to pay for each time it was used – it would be fair to assume the new logo is BBC Worldwide reducing the fee radio 2 had to pay or at the very least in going back into the BBC rather than going to Groove Addicts.
The jingles launched last year will be Tweaked” with a new sing
There is an update package of cuts to support the set launched last yearJuly 28, 2013 at 9:07 pm #91051UKJinglesMemberCould BBC Radio Two shortly be Mcasso’d (logo-wise) ?!?
July 28, 2013 at 9:17 pm #91052loujosephsNot much has changed, the news intro is ugly and will sound that way on air.
Everything else is just a refresh..same idea as the groove stuff but the groove singers HLC are better. The Chris Evan’s morning jingle borrows a lot for the last heller package for WZZD and also KVIL.
As Jim Hillard is found of saying not much new in the last 15 years.July 28, 2013 at 10:26 pm #91054upsweepMemberRemember the time when we all bitched about the original GA Package being used for so long – sound though the current WB is not going to suffer the same fate !
lets just hope we can all get access to new cuts – you got to give aloud applause to WB for doing just that with the 2012 package
July 28, 2013 at 10:39 pm #91055roymartinWe’ll have a montage of the new cuts online at midnight in the JingleMad Soundcloud Group, and details on RadioToday.co.uk too
July 28, 2013 at 10:53 pm #91056UKJinglesMemberyou got to give aloud applause to WB for doing just that with the 2012 package
Yeah I totally agree with you there….
So have these all been re-done recently or were they actually made last year when all the musicians/singers were together with the knowledge that the “Heritage Logo” would prove to expensive to keep??
Look forward to the montage Roy!July 29, 2013 at 12:13 am #91059RobinBlamiresThey’ve finally arrived. I’ll give the new melody logo time, but a bold move.
July 29, 2013 at 12:13 am #91060mbMemberLet me be the first to comment as its after embargo – I like the gap between BBC and Radio 2, the jingles are nice and bright and fresh sounding. I like the vocals.
July 29, 2013 at 12:17 am #91061RobinBlamiresHaving thought about it I can imagine it sounding a lot better than the old logo in the existing cuts from last year. A much stronger ending.
