The rest of the CD isn’t too bad either…

MemberHmm I thought I had some D.A. to share I found the folder but it’s empty!
I had GWR, Southern Sound, Mercury & Radio West on tape. might be an oops moment.September 13, 2014 at 12:57 pm #95693IanF
Thanks for uploading them Iain. Some nice harmonies there. Not as good as the 1984 sings but still good. David Arnold knew how to do accapellas back in the day

“Not as good as the 1984”
I have a tiny aircheck I made of Mercury circa summer 1984 which had a single “more modern” than the 1983 package “ramp” cut, with “Your Kind of Music” (I vaguely think…) rather than the “heart of the South” lyric.
If there’s a fuller sample or more of the ’84 I’d certainly like to hear more.
The original package I believe uses a lot of tracks/insts done for Marcher Sound in North Wales. Can someone clarify which came first?
(And is there a reasonable copy anywhere “out there” of the Marcher Sound vocal cuts?)Linden – I’ve various other DA items than I’ve mentioned previously, but they are either pre-broadband era MP3s (i.e. not too brill quality) or dubbed from the cassettes from some very good collectors but obviously again subject to quality factors.

The Marcher Sound package was from 1983 (their launch package). The main theme was recycled for Radio Mercury, using the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
However the majority of the Marcher jingles weren’t used by Mercury.

Thanks Prof !
These “1980s south of the Border” stations & packages were a “fuzzy” area for me, apart from the occasional long run down the M6 or A1(M) etc, so even nowadays I still have a lot of gaps in both my “jingle knowledge” and audio collection to fill, as well as “clarifications” to my garbled “facts”!
[TQs to those JMers who’ve been sending me a load of excellent audio this week – much appreciated!]
PS – absolutely NOTHING to do with jingles – but anyone want a link to videos of last night’s MASSIVE fireworks display at Scotland’s iconic Forth Bridges celebrating the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Forth Road Bridge? (…and please, none of the usual jokes (again) about the “Fifth” one, as we’re only 1/2 way through building the Third one

Thanks for sharing IJ, I think I need to explore the world of David Arnold a little more
Here’s some examples Linden. A little montage I did for You Tube

Typical! – while rummaging around for something else entirely, I found a dub of something I’d not heard for a very long time… some Radio Tees but probably not the launch package.
Embedded at home.recnet.com/soundcloud
The vocal sound in there at some points, if it is indeed Emison, is identical to a set of custom cuts for Scotland’s Radio Clyde, possibly 1975, which included very similar acapellas. If anyone’s got a non-mushy dub of said Clyde items … please get in touch!

Unfortunately, “today’s radio” is more likely to have a generic number that is a single £x-quid-a-minute line for the whole network (especially for those 6-month-long “guess who’s…” competitions of (*cough*) alleged dubious integrity)
Still, a montage of “sung phone-in number jingles of the past” could actually be quite a VERY long piece of audio!
Linden:- if you want all of that Tees selection in-the-clear…

Hi Iain, hou’s it gaun?
Big day in Scotland today I understand. But to divert from politics for a while, you mentioned some “more modern” cuts from David Arnold for Mercury. Might these be they..?

I’m not sure about the alternative tag line, but I am frequently wrong. The cuts here have the “Heart of the South” lyric removed.

Gaun’ yersel’ Big Man!
Mercury – the “ramp”-style cut at circa 1:00 to 1:15 is what I’d heard, except it has a sax solo at the end instead of the “Your Kind of Music”.
Dropbox?
“Big day” – Aye – I can see the local polling station just down the street, from the window here.

MemberDavid, thanks for posting those DA jingles. I had not heard them before. Always nice to hear ‘new’ audio.
