Here's a new kind of montage for you to download and hopefully enjoy…
Bit of back story – I came across an old tape of jingles and other bits I recorded off-air in 1986 – 1987 when I was a great deal younger than I am now! So I thought I'd dump a few down for everyone to hear.
Featured are the following stations…Radio Wyvern, BRMB, Severn Sound, GWR, Northants 96, Beacon Radio, Radio Trent and other stations.
Included are two station launches – Northants 96 and Beacon Shropshire.
If the link below does not work, copy and paste into your browser the following url…
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=F0C9110A3337C810
Please grab this file straight away from yousendit or else it will be gone quickly due to restricted amount of downloads and time allowed , please also note that the file has been uploaded onto the off-air folder in the 'Off-Air' section of the Download section. Hopefully this should be about in a day or so.
Please tell me what you think, if you like this kind of montage then I'll do some more.
Thanks!!!

THAT`S MY NEW MOTTO.July 10, 2006 at 8:50 am #21589rakMemberThanks for that montage, Bello! I'd definitely like to hear more montages like that from the '80s. Some great TOHs in there.
Someone needed to have told John Lewis that Alfa accapellas don't mix well over the top of great Muff Murfin Wyvern jingles!!
Sounds like you were well placed in Worcester for anorakking back then – a good mix of stations. Keep the montages coming, and I'll try and dig some old off-air stuff out as well if people are interested…

Hiya matey
Thanks for your kind words, anoraks always give mixed responses to off-air station imaging. If you have the jingle packages featured then why bother with off-air recordings and scoped airchecks.
I always think its fascinating that back twenty or thirty years ago it was hard to get hold of jingle packages, so it was easier to tape things off the radio. I first obtained jingle packages and demo's in 1987 via David Arnold Music, Alfasound and Standard Sound. Plus its quite nostalgic listening to jingles as they were featured on the air with promo's and hearing the old news intro's complete with headline tasters in some cases. I was a mere lad when I recorded those jingles!
Worcester was then and still good at pulling in stations, although things were changing quite regular due to service expansion/new relays and frequency changes back then.
For some reason Wyvern's frequency cuts had various namechecks all over them so John Lewis's Alfasound accapella was just part of the course! This of course was years before corporate branding and a single 'station sound' was incorporated into stations formats. It can be argued that back then Wyvern had no format or music philosophy and nowadays would pass off as an adequate Jack FM station!
Like I said, I have got quite a few tapes and depending on what kind of response I get, then I might do some more in the same kind of style as other posters on the forum.
Keep the responses coming

July 10, 2006 at 8:35 pm #21613RobinBlamiresI'd love it if someone made a JingleMix CD based entirely around off-air for Jingle Day Part 4! That extra bit of nostalgia!

Thats a good thought, there's nothing quite like nostalgia….lets see where this goes and who knows!

Funny you should say that Robin…………….my brother is working on such a mix for JDP4 right now! Loads of great stuff (mainly from Yorkshire stations) including an aircheck of a certain Mr Hirst on “West Yorkshire's New Official Countdown) from October 96!

Just checked and the file is still available, I think I got the hyperlink wrong. So I'm sorry about that.
Copy and paste into your browser the following URL
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=F0C9110A3337C810
…this redirects to yousendit and the option to download the file.
It should be okay…unfortunately with yousendit there are download limits and timespans. Sorry…no personal server space!

July 16, 2006 at 10:01 pm #21678BelloAs promised here's the second montage, the majority of this material dates from 1986 and consists of BBC/ILR stations in Southern England & beyond.
Please follow the following link…

Again…if it doesn't work, copy & paste the link into your browser. Just like before please grab it quickly because of limited downloads and timespans.
Also it would be nice to hear from everyone downloading it…what do you think?

July 17, 2006 at 11:15 am #21687jonnoMemberClicking on the link didn't work for me, but copying it and pasting in to the Address box in my browser did!
There's something special about an offair montage, the far from perfect audio quality reminds you just how long ago the recording came from and snippits of DJ's and news headlines from the era add to the nostalgia.
Great montage .. particularly loved hearing the Victory, Southern and 2CR cuts. Living in the Portsmouth area at the time, I had a big aerial on my parents chimney which was great for FM DX-ing. I used to listen to Southern Sound quite a bit .. mainly Timbo and Tommy Boyd in the evenings. Thanks for rekindling the memories.
