Can anyone identify these news intro jingles?
      They are from the mid-1980s.
Someone suggested to me they were from ‘PMS’ – but I can’t find anything out about PMS.
I queried whether they meant PAMS, but they definitely meant PMS.
This of course could be a red herring, so any assistance with the name or source of these would be really appreciated.
The jingles from each piece are all from the same package, with slight variations on a couple.

Maybe Airforce or Killer Music ? they have the kind of instrumentation that you might of heard on Capital FM on a news intro of old … these are for a Kiwi or South African station ? could be any company I guess but theres certainly a ring to the style …

If they were heard on e.g. Hauraki (Auckland, North island) AND Avon (Christchurch, South Island) then I would assume it was a “network news” type feed, and that “news provider” obtained them.

Lots of Ozzie jingle producers back in that era, with many NZ customers post-PAMS.
MAybe have a look in that direction?

PS – for history buffs – Radio Hauraki was one of (very few) offshore English-speaking stations anywhere to “make it on to land – legally”.

Correct, they were used on Kiwi (NZ) stations.
Thanks everyone so far for your suggestions – I’m following them all up.

Iain, I contacted the guy who was head of IRN News and he’s pretty much ruled out that they had anything to do with the supply of these.

I’m not sure where to start looking in terms of Aussie production companies.

Jinglehouse have been around for about 20 years.,..

But I’m struggling to remember the names of Oz ID producers from the 80s and earlier (especially the 1970s ones that I still have creaky old dubs off). IMPO some of those companies produced some of the most excrutiatingly dire ID jingles I’ve ever heard in over 45 years of being a Collector.

But with a few exceptions of course. I have a reel from Fox-FM Melbourne (OK, Nunawadding…) by Mike Brady which is a beaut of an “80s synth era” package.

Is it Digamae you thinking of iain. I know they produced a lot of Australian Jingle back in the 1970’s. I think they also did some work with TM productions, too.

I don’t recognise the name “Digamae” Mark – but the late 70s to the mid/late-80s was a bit of a gap for me anyway!

I still have (now poor condition) dubs of 6IX Perth / 1XX Whakatane early 70s items (those “16 trombones, 14 flutes” or whatever nonsense…)
80s stereo 6KY, some 5KA (ugh) 7HT (also ugh) but good Fifeshire FM (Nelson) and a few other good / bad odds ‘n’ ends.

You did well to get hold of all those back in the 70’s Iain. Another Australian jingle company I seem to remember was called Magnolia Productions.

Kiwifm, it might be worth taking a look at the site below – perhaps they could help you in identifying the news jingles…

Thanks guys, I have emailed Jinglehouse and await a reply.

Iain, would that ‘Mike Brady’ be the same Mikul Brady that worked at 898/Kiwi FM in Hamilton in the late 80s?

“Mike Brady” – Sorry – I’ve no idea!

Although I got my tape from Fox-FM circa 1987 (it had stuff from their 1984 (?) and 1986 packages, and some quite “sultry” summer (December of course) sweepers), it was only many years later on here that a JMer identified them for me.

(…the audio links from back then are expired though).
There IS a wiki link though (he’s about 3 down the list of persons of that name).

And here’s a cut…(with apologies for the dire “aborted recovery/restoration” audio quality)

Thanks Iain. Ok, it’s not the same person. Mike (Mikul) Brady lives here in NZ but interestingly enough worked in local radio here as well.

I got hold of Jinglehouse and they were unable to help. They started around 1990 and these news jingles go back to at least the mid-80s.

So, I’m no further ahead. I’ve contacted a lot of people who were around in the radio scene at this time and no one seems to know where these came from.
