Can someone tell me where this song came from? Who produced it and any back story that it has?
I know that I’ve heard this on JingleMad Radio in various versions but I don’t know its origin. Sorry if it has been discussed before but I couldn’t find a previous post (mostly because I have no idea what to search for).

This version was recorded off the radio back in the 80s on WKHQ in Charleviox, Michigan.

Does anyone have other versions they would like to share?

      Thanks,
      Terry

I’ll have to dig deep as I have a version somewhere.. but a bit of random Googling brought up this. It was released on McDonalds records of all things!

The Rhythm Of The City song was originally sung for WRKO with two versions… one including reference to WRKO… the other not. The cut was sung by Jim Kirk, who is still working in the jingle industry in the Dallas area. The WKHQ version was produced in April 1980. I hate crappy airchecks of old jingles so I’ve posted a full “clean” copy of the cut below for your enjoyment!

Thank you all! When I made this post, I thought the WKHQ version of this song would be one of the more obscure versions since KHQ was a small market (159) station in a mostly rural area in Michigan. I certainly didn’t expect a YouTube video OR even better, a clean copy (Thanks!). I appreciate the feedback and the insight.

This thread is what Jingle Mad is all about. A question from a member and before you know it, JMers are offering up examples, insight and background.

Those 3 record length promo songs are very nice. I like the voice of Jim Kirk on song 2.

I wander if this package was a big success with the whole campagne (art work e.t.c.) like the You package.

Love hearing those different versions. Thank you.
In case you never heard it, there’s a fabulous segment on ‘This American Life’ about city songs. It’s poignant and hilarious:

That was great! Thanks for that.
Having went to college in West Michigan I remember hearing this version on one of the local TV stations many, many times.
