April 22, 2006 at 11:13 am #25917robertpobjoyYes, Radio 2’s Jingles are really good and do work – especially the later ones which have a nice Radio Two-ooooh sing at the end.
However, as it has been mentioned their package is rather old now, and I would agree that it is time for a change. I would personally like to see them get something from Wise Buddah – as the work done by them so far for Radio 2 in my opinion is spot on!

Just to stir a thought or two, when I first heard Freeway of France’s stuff,
several years ago, I thought their custom MOR-style work might go quite
well if applied to a Radio Two spec instead of The Beeb endlessly going
for the American sound instead of something more sideways.“Radio Two” sung to the “Cherie FM” logo & classy layered harmonies
would be interesting perhaps ? (try it in your head !)April 22, 2006 at 8:38 pm #27417IainJohnstonMemberhexguyuk wrote: …..mentioned their package is rather old now, and I would agree that it is time for a change…..

Even the bloody travel bed they use isn’t a specific.
Ultimately jingles in the sense of being part of the programming are considered old hat and not part of the station sound. I’ve never heard a jock use a transition between songs or a shotgun for instance.
Richard Allison, bless him, would use two strung together is his opening sequence and Ken The Bruce uses his talkup into the 10 & 11 o’clock news
but it’s the same cuts every day at the same times – yawn. What’s the point of having new jingles when those they have get so little use ?
Tell me I’m wrong.

April 23, 2006 at 10:30 pm #25930frankYou’re not wrong Chalks.
Richard Allinson and Tim Smith do play jingles during their shows (when they’re allowed on air ) other than a cut out of the news.
Tim always did on Radio 1……as did Steve Wright but now even he doesn’t bother much.I remember a few years ago taping him playing the ‘America’ jingle as a full length totally instrumental bed.
Nothing like that now.
Pete Mitchell has a dj cut for his new shows…….but it’s that heavy rock cut most of the others have.
Wogan does vary his out of news cuts a bit but I don’t think he knows the 2003 add ons exist because he has never played one to my knowledge. The best dj to play a varied selection of jingles on R2 over the last few years : ❗
Colin Berry when he did a short stand in for Janice Long one night when the link to Birmingham went down. That was brilliant!!!April 23, 2006 at 10:30 pm #27424frankYou’re not wrong Chalks.

Anyone know roughly how much one radio 2 resing cut would cost as i have a radio 2 mad mate?
You might want to sit down for this . . . .
I heard that an inquiry to Groove for a single cut resing was in the region of US$1000 !!!!!
Less of a pinch on your wallet is a ’76-’92 Radio 2 resing from JAM at US$250.
Even less of a pinch (a dozen or so pints of Stella) is the JingleDay singers (including special guest appearances by Dave Nightingale and Robin Blamires) down in the Gents toilet (great reverb) doing their “rendition” of a Radio 2 jingle which is supplied with the usual disclaimer “Any similarity to a jingle, whether living or dead, is purely coincidental”.
Your choice!
