They just launched it: http://www.topformat.com with the latest new packages & their new brand identity. Check it out!
March 15, 2012 at 6:26 pm #82732BarrasThanks for letting us know about the revamped Top Format website Marc…
There are 305 “Q102” jingles on the new Top Format website and guess who`s just downloaded them all….
March 15, 2012 at 11:16 pm #82734simon_t123Memberahh they are soooo generous in the Netherlands you can even zip up “all the cuts” quite an expensive place to purchase from mind for the collector / web station Euro 350 I was quoted per cut but I sooo love their work over the years … Marc, hello you are a radio man from Holland, do you know any rumour if R10 Gold might revamp their jingles anytime soon ? I guess these are hard times … to me the JAM packages suited them just fine (and thanks for posting some more of those for me) I notice on the TF website there are strange re-workings of the R10 FM package sung instead as just “Radio 10” which I think makes them a little collectable, as I don’t think they were ever used on air … I’m interested to know also about the TF link to my local Essex FM and the ‘Power Positive Package’ made for Essex FM in association with Alfa UK, but that also aired on “Radio 538” for a time … the 538 resings would be a gem to trade for as I can’t locate the full Essex FM package anywhere, just the demo
March 16, 2012 at 7:29 am #82746MarcMannetjeSimon my friend, Radio 10 Gold was purchased a few years ago by a new owner and in the meantime switched from AM to their new FM-frequency, 103FM. To promote their new spot they changed their name from R10 Gold in Radio 10 FM. And a year later in Radio 10. And another year later back to Radio 10 GOLD.
Here are some JAM WNBC-jingles just sung as ‘Radio 10’, this is also how the station started in 1988.538 did a new package every year. The Essex FM cuts may have been used back in 2001/2002, but I am not shure. I will have a look in my archieves.

http://soundcloud.com/marcmannetje/jam-wnbc-sung-for-gezongenMarch 16, 2012 at 10:17 am #82764simon_t123Memberahh nice work with the audio Marc, these are WNBC cuts that to me are the signature to R10G but I’d not realised they had the audio sung there as R10 some years before ! Its good to learn these things thanks … On the TF website the custom package that was made (Top Gold 3/4 ?) and sung for R10FM had originally appeared on the TF website sung as R10FM but all the cuts were re-posted more recently sung as R10 which is a but strange as they were never used on air sung that way, actually they now sound very different on the TF website I was caught out when singing along I think its time for new jingles anyway on R10G as they used to change so often ! As for R538 its not my area of expertise, but I understand they are or were a popular station, and “Power Positive” would have been in use around 1996/97 when it appeared on Essex FM certainly a TF demo CD has one of the cuts in a montage for 538 which grabbed my attention ! TF worked with Alfa UK around 1996 on some packages ‘Top Flight’ ‘Power Positive” “Whammer” “Top Gold” and others which as well as the UK ended up on Euro stations such as Welle Salzburg, Charivari, 3FM, R10G etc it was like a partnership between the companies at that time on these packages & vocals were recorded at JAM to add another twist ! Of course back then TF was proud to sing “The Best Of Both Skies” with a Dutch/US vocal group … All interesting stuff what impressed me Marc is how the Netherlands seems to love its radio !!! Lots of energy, passion & good jingles to be heard
March 16, 2012 at 10:59 am #82766MarcMannetjeThank you Simon. Our passion for jingles was started by Top Format founder Ren Groot who worked for Canadian radio in the 70s. His courage brought the original American Tanner, TM and JAM tracks to Europe. I’m not sure but in our country we have to learn and speak a lot of languages because NOBODY speaks Dutch! We are a country of traders. Maybe that is why we learned to master the jingle business.
In radio I don’t see a difference between eg. Britain and Holland. Capital Radio, Big L, Radio 1, they are all stations that understood the meaning of good identification too.
Top Format was the partner of Alfasound in the 80s and 90s. They have teamed up with Music4 and WiseBuddah too. I think it is the best way to create new markets, business AND creativity…!
March 17, 2012 at 12:23 pm #82793amigoMemberDoes the site have any examples of their re-sings? I would love to hear the full Cadena 100 package they did in the late 90s.

Hi Marc/Simon,
I recorded these Radio 538 jingles around 1995 from my SKY TV satellite receiver (yes, SKY TV took Radio 538 for broadcast then) and the jingles sound “JAMish”, I presume they`re sung by Top Format.
These 538 jingles sounded exciting on-the-air, even though I didn`t understand what the DJs were talking about (!) the jingles and production at 538 always sounded good, just wondered if you had this package to trade or could post any more jingle airchecks of them ?
March 17, 2012 at 3:49 pm #82801MarcMannetjeThanks David, I have a package somewhere. I will try to get it on Soundcloud the next few days.
March 17, 2012 at 5:06 pm #82805simon_t123MemberDavid, thanks those 538 cuts were certainly JAM tracks with possibly TF or vocals with TF & JAM vocals as was fashionable at the time I think their use of ‘Power Positive’ would have been the year after but this is a great listen … The Dutch radio in general is very up-tempo, great DJ’s, great voices, great imaging and an uncanny knack of flipping over to English at a moments notice haha, as I’ve said before it was test transmissions and the early R10G broadcasts back in 1993 that had myself & a half Dutch school friend hooked to the radio
Marc, hi that’s a good point there, a country of traders ! And a Dutchman was normally behind or heavily involved with the various 60’s pirate radio stations also lols … I think a lot of the music played is of English origin, I think I know some of the Dutch big hits now from all the years listening to R10G, interestingly in my area of the UK R10G made it into RAJAR as a named station people were listening to in the 90’s I remember also always loving Sky Radio on the satellite, and parking up on Lowestoft beach on sunny days just to pick up some radio out of the Netherlands …
There was a Canadian / Dutch sounding jock “Dave Durham” he called himself who used to present a late night Sunday show on R10G mostly speaking English but reverting to Dutch with ease, it was a great show as he read out a letter I’d sent from over here as a kid, as well as other letters from UK listeners I remember he pronounced “Edinburgh” in that distinctly North American way people do …
Anyway, the topic is jingles / TF and TF have certainly helped the European jingle market no end, dot hey still represent JAM I wonder ? as they are very linked to Music4 and WB now I think ?
March 17, 2012 at 8:26 pm #82808MarcMannetjeHey Simon yes Top Format still represents JAM, Wisebuddah I am not sure of. I haven’t heared new productions by Music4 sung or u
538 is market leader in our market with about 12% market share, followed by Radio 2 (more or less like BBC Radio 2) with 11%.
March 18, 2012 at 8:52 am #82813MarcMannetjeThey have some resings on the site BTW, here http://www.topformat.nl/formats/ac you’ll find the latest SKY Radio package sung in German…
March 18, 2012 at 10:41 am #82815BarrasThanks David, I have a package somewhere. I will try to get it on Soundcloud the next few days.
Thanks Marc, look forward to hearing them…
To Simon…
I`m sure Marc has heard these jingles before for Veronica, just in case you haven`t Simon, here`s a montage of Hitradio 1 by JAM-Top Format. Incidentally, listen out for the sonovox which doesn`t sound like Jon Wolfert, I guess it must have been added at Top Format in Amsterdam…to me, the sonovox sounds a bit rough ! %-(
March 18, 2012 at 12:52 pm #82817simon_t123Membersplennnnndid Mr Barras, with thanks
March 18, 2012 at 12:52 pm #82818simon_t123Member… you can never hear enough JINGLES !!!
March 19, 2012 at 12:26 pm #82852MarcMannetjeChaps I only have one 538 jingle in the clear, sorry for that, I thought I had an entire package but there just all remixes.
@David I think it was Bart van Gogh who did the sonovox on Veronica Hitradio – they had a sonovox in the Fendal Sound studio’s back in the 80s!
