February 14, 2008 at 10:37 pm #5816IQ Beast
The original post somehow got deleted during the recent “software update” and took some nice commentary by Chris Stevens, Michael Bolton and others along with it.
Just for the record, the package can be heard on the IQ main site here. There are some extra media bits and an aircheck on the IQ Blog here.
Enjoy!
February 15, 2008 at 1:12 pm #56609roymartinMy apologies. I remember seeing Chris being the last person to post on that thread before I shut down the site for xfer but it must have missed it.
Maybe Chris could re-post? (If he remembers what he said!)February 15, 2008 at 1:15 pm #56610roymartinFor reference, as some of this thread was deleted during the move:

I must admit tho i don't usually like intrumental packages, I quite like it, big sounding, very dramatic, dare i say – very David Lowe like
Then Michael Bolton said:
Very dour – Very Richard Park, The trouble with the music is that its trying to be so much more formal and powerful but the logo has become lost and weak. And I'm sorry but I hate greg marsden MORE than any other voice over. LBC used him in 96 and the station was hardly a success, he was over used on classic FM, The Mix network and other stations – you'd think we only had about four people doing V/o in the UK. I found the whole package very disappointing. But it suits the new sound programming, dull and dour. But given that the dreadful programme director was involved I'm not really surprised. I have no idea who this new sounding LBC is aiming at but its never succeded at trying to be Radio 4 and worthy and it's not going to this time. It's heading the way of Crown FM. I was so looking forward to an updated sound but I got something that could have been on 10 or 20 years ago witha v/o from the crypt of unimaginative creativity. At least they can have a bigger package as they can dust off all the old Greg liners
IQ beats have done some fantastic news/talk stuff for BBC Leeds / Manchester so i'm not being totally anti IQ here. I think the brief is wrong, I think the sound is wrong and I think the V/O is wrong.
Then Len Groat said:
It was recorded at 'Studio X'
'the musical birthplace of a multitude of Platinum records, epic Hollywood movie trailers, and soundtracks for blockbuster video games'
It instantly brought to my mind Steven Spielberg's 'boys on bicycles' sequence….. taking off in the chase… and flying toward the moon….
.. in 2 words.. FILM MUSIC
..but… the ~HYPE~ on the website is BEAUTIFULLY written
