WXTU Philadelfeea is using a brand new custom from … I don't know. But it's a custom alright
Anybody know who did the new custom?
To me, I think it's Zone. Don't know why, but it might have been Bruce who did the new cuts… or M-Edge Productions. Just my 2 guesses.
Listen to the webstream, hear the new custom package, and Discuss on this topic please.
I'll get things started.
It's different, but I kind of like it. It's the package that rocks.
July 9, 2009 at 5:19 am #68279ratnobMemberI've just listened to 30 minutes of their overnight programming and not heard a single ident, spoken or sung, even at the top of the hour. Instead it's back-to-back country with long gaps between each song. Will listen again later and try to record what I hear
July 9, 2009 at 8:54 am #68283IainJohnstonMemberGeoff, reason might be that a lot of US stations have their web streaming feed “gapped-out” for legal reasons, e.g. not being permitted to have commercials aired outside their air-area due to royalty/union/etc conditions, and so on.
Some stations (e.g. a lot of New York'ers) carry public service spots and other “fillers” etc on their webstream at those points.
(Must get a bit like the old UK “Superstation” filler situation at times though!)
Or of course, XTU's webstream setup could just simply be duff! (…used a “polite” word there, just in case Cody's “mom” is watching!)
July 9, 2009 at 12:44 pm #68288JingleMadMemberAuthorTry again Jeff. After midnight was on when you heard the station. That show is over now.
July 11, 2009 at 2:26 pm #68312ratnobMemberHere's a cut recorded this afternoon:
http://homepage.mac.com/geoffbarton/IDs/XTU.mp3Nice energy to it.
July 11, 2009 at 2:49 pm #68313jingle1That cut is from TM Century “Philly's Country”. Several years old.
July 11, 2009 at 3:11 pm #68314ratnobMemberAha! Thought it was TM. So much for the “new custom” thread
July 11, 2009 at 4:14 pm #68317JingleMadMemberAuthorNo, they are using the new package, just try to listen longer after commercials.
Jeff, that cut is Deffenetly Philley's Country, but XTU only uses that cut before commercials. If you listen after the commercials, you will hear the custom.
July 11, 2009 at 9:13 pm #68325ratnobMemberOkay. Here's more than an hour of the station output. I've tidied it up a bit by cutting the gaps (PD – you should be ashamed of what the online sound is like) and telescoping the songs. See what you think.
July 11, 2009 at 10:06 pm #68326kasur0023Maybe this will help too… I tried recording online this afternoon as well, and these cuts definitely aren't Philly's Country. I can't tell which company they're from, though. http://www.texasradiocollection.com/wxtu-7-11-09.mp3
July 11, 2009 at 11:40 pm #68328JingleMadMemberAuthorMaybe these jingles were produced in-house?
I tryed M-Edge yesterday. Unfortunately, It wasn't them. So that company is out.
Although, if the jingles were produced in-house, then I wouldn't be surprised if they keep updating them, like YoungGuns and RW One does with there Country packages.
Just take a guess guys. I'll try ReelWorld and TM next week.
July 13, 2009 at 5:42 am #68335jkubiakI almost want to say that its from IQ Beats…
July 13, 2009 at 4:52 pm #68341GlennaMemberYou can find out the old fashioned way:
Call them.July 21, 2009 at 1:26 am #68512TheMusicNerdOr I can tell you!
They're the country version of Hooks by Steve Sykes. My understanding is that the same package also runs on WUBL/Atlanta.
July 21, 2009 at 2:37 am #68513coolnt@ TheMusicNerd
This is confirmed: Steve Sykes told me 2 months back that he is expanding “Hooks” to cover Country and other formats soon. XTU is just one of them.

July 21, 2009 at 6:34 pm #68546LenGroatI just listened to the WYYK cut on their site.. and could not decipher ONE single word…
Worse still ~ I clicked another button without looking and heard 'Sharma FM' which I presumed was an Asian station
…only to then see it was listed at 'CHUM FM' !!
Regardless of musical and vocal styles, WHY do stations and (some) jingle companies accept such totally unclear jingles?
Awful………
July 21, 2009 at 7:14 pm #68548mbMemberNot a patch on the great TM XTU package.
Dull Dull DullJuly 21, 2009 at 8:54 pm #68549IainJohnstonMemberI tried to listen to what Len is mentioning – it took several listens to several WXYK cuts to realise the station is called…”The Monkey” – says it all really!
Once upon a time, US stations that used “names” at least tried to select their call letters to sound vaguely like the “name” (and vice versa)e.g. KEGL=Eagle, KIIS=Kiss, KOST(obvious), etc – so how does WXYK=Monkey and WBVD=Kiss? If UK stations did that then they might as well have used their Radio Authority license codes (not very “singable”)!
Still, interesting to listen to new ideas – and I'm sure very inexpensive to buy – but I doubt if I'll be looking for a Personal Cut version!
July 22, 2009 at 3:44 am #68557coolntWe appreciate the efforts of producers who continuously find new and innovative ways to image stations. I trust that this is basically what radio, as a whole, needs, innovation and the ability go with the times.
We also appreciate that such innovative ideas are also welcome here at Jinglemad.com
July 22, 2009 at 12:46 pm #68566LenGroat
Just to clarify the 'Sharma FM' jingles are the 'CHUM' ones on this link:http://www.hooksbystevesykes.com/demos/
I think this discussion can be summarised by stating that there are too many radio stations nowadays all doing exactly the same thing, programmed by people who are only really into Music, and do not have a feel for the strengths of Radio as a medium. Basically a 'zany' breakfast show, then for the rest of the day just back to back music, with 'love songs' at night.
Y A W N………..
These programmers have NO idea about how to PROGRAMME a radio station to provide other strands of output: Information, Entertainment, News, the 'feeling of community'~ these WERE all KEY reasons people USED to listen to 'the radio'. But YES, sadly those days are gone/ lost….
July 22, 2009 at 1:16 pm #68569JingleMadMemberAuthorI actually agree with both Len and WIXY1360 here… but I don't mine to much really.
Still, if radio stations use jingles and I know a lot of them do, at least they use them instead of no jingles at all.
True the vocals might not be clear, but I hear them just fine. test me if you want!
July 24, 2009 at 6:33 am #68627jkubiakOk….how do I say this…the CHR version of hooks makes me want to kill a puppy, they are the worst ive ever heard. On the other hand the country version isnt that bad. I kinda like them….
