Very sadly after many years it sounds like the JAM jingles have gone from Tampa Bay’s WRBQ Q105 :-(

Does anyone know who has done their new jingles?

The new ones are ok, not sure they fit with the music on Q105 though, I much preferred the JAM cuts.

I believe it’s the Kiss 108 2006 package from Reelworld. Not a good fit for the Classic Hits format at all, though then again Q105’s playlist these days is a bit out in left field for that format. Same goes for their Las Vegas sister station KKLZ, which is now using the same “70s 80s and more” slogan, and has replaced their JAM jingles with what I believe is Reelworld One AC. Not sure what Beasley is thinking here.

They seem to play quite a lot more British hits on Q105 these days than they used to and more than other similar American stations and it has made me wonder if they try to target the British tourists to the various resorts in the area?

Listening to the Q105 breakfast show this morning, one of those new Reelworld jingles sounded very awkward and not very good out of commercials into Journey’s Open Arms single :-/

I felt something like that was gonna happen soon as the CBS-Beesley exchange happened.

Obviously the new jingles make quite a change and shift in the stations longstanding on air sound, JAM very much giving Q105 the sound of a heritage station.

I wonder whether this shift to a younger sound imaging wise will have any effect on Q’s audience figures good or bad?

My thoughts, just IMO, if they wanted to gear towards 90’s music again, they could’ve added more jam cuts that never aired in their top 40 era, like Z World, Z Plus, or Pro Choice, or if they just had to use a package from RW, they could’ve used one of their earlier z packages, from the first package to 2005, Although RW I think doesn’t go quite well with a classic hits station, unless they use the bob packages, which could work. I, myself would’ve added a jam composite, or if to choose another company, TM, and let some of the classic TM/TMC material see some light again, but to put this situation in my positive perspective, It’s better than that benztown material by miles. I’d rather go with Dallas or Seattle than those guys.

CBS has a deep investment into and appreciation of the classic hits format. They always do it the right way, down to the smallest of details. Once Q105 was sold to Beasley, that quality undoubtedly went out the window.

so true jeff, so true! I just felt something like that would happen soon as I heard that exchange would happen

I think I know the answer to this question.
But I will ask it anyway. Did Q 105 ever use Jam’s Do it Again package?

I’m pretty sure the only “Oldies” type package they ever aired was Tony Griffin’s Super Hits, back when they first switched to the format as “Oldies 104.7”. Otherwise, they’ve only used country (in the ’90s/early 2000s) and top 40 packages .

Yup they are RW. The world doesn’t revolve around JAM. Accept sometimes change is the way forward.

You forget that there may not be a ‘way forward’. The HUGE problems of the largest radio groups in the USA are public:

“iHeart (was Clear Channel) is $20.5 BILLION in debt – Cumulus has $3 billion of debt”

The ‘suits’ who change how these stations sound are the ones who have built up that debt….

It’s amazing they have ANY money for jingles at all – I suspect they are on much smaller budgets than 10 years ago, so THAT controls what they can afford?!

                                      Happy Holidays!

                                      Len

Q105 is a Beasley station not iHeart or Cumulus. Anyways, jingles are better than NO jingles, right?

I quite like RW Jingles – Some packages are a bit old now but still sound truly amazing and are catchy to sing a-ling to.
My biggest criticism is not really of them but the success of the updating packages seems to have killed the appetite and budgets for nice custom packages.
Their back catalogue is amazing and there’s no doubt they sound punchy on air.
So whilst I like other companies products I can say that RW make amazing jingles – some of the repetition and lack or creativity well I put that at the door of the customers to be honest a problem that affects all jingle companies.

Yeah, used to have the big bief with RW, but i’ve come to like some of their material, as I said earlier, I thought the more better option for that would’ve been the Bob material, perhaps even the WODJ package… well, maybe not there, as they’re going 90’s now, but maybe the alice 1045 package, or the RW 1 AC cuts. Heck, even the Kiss dallas 96 or first kiss 108 package would’ve worked.

Thought they sounded still fresh on Q105 these JAM jingles. I can understand they want a younger, fresh approach BUT since Mason Dixon is still on board in mornings you can’t say they will sound younger, cause he’s in his 60’s. Has anyone a aircheck of the new jingles, since you can’t listen online over here ?

Q105 should’ve gotten RW’s WLOL, K-Hits Chicago and WCBS-FM packages, and this is the first post of this topic since December of 2015. However, WOCL in DeLand, FL did get RW’s K-Hits Chicago and WCBS-FM packages but not their WLOL package. WLCE (Alice 104.5) in Philly did air RW’s WLOL package. So, Q105 got RW’s Kiss Boston 2006 package instead of their WLOL package.

Before Q105 picked up RW, as a CHR station they did air re-sings of JAM packages Positron, Outstanding, The Rock, FM, The Flame Thrower, Warp Factor, Red Hot, Power Station, and Turbo Z. Q105 got Power Station (instead of Skywave) before getting Turbo Z, while Skywave did air here in the Tampa Bay area on WFLZ instead of Q105. As a country station, they aired re-sings of TM Century’s Young Country in 1993.

Or… here’s another good idea. I heard the NPO Radio 2 package would fit either the classic hits or adult hits stations, so Q105 might consider picking that up instead.
(edit, forgot the demo of how it should the package sound like, but here it is)
