After many years of Jam resings and S2Blue cuts, two new packages (one for the hits stations- Lincs FM, Trax FM etc and the other for the memories stations- Compass FM, Rutland Radio etc) launch across the Lincs FM group on Monday morning from Audiosweets. I should have some audio for you soon.

AudioSweets are still S2Blue – but listening in at the moment – one fairly short and punchy and contemporary-sounding cut, but sounds like same familiar S2Blue male vocal.

So maybe I haven’t heard a new item as such yet?

You’re right of course wixy- it’s an arm of S2Blue.
The difference with this lot is that they only sing the station name, no frequency or slogan and the vocals were done by a solo male and female- dubbed to give them a group sound. I’m told they’ll be getting one new cut every 3 months from now on.

Oh dear: neither the S2Blue nor Lincs FM audio feeds are working for me.

I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, of course, but this all sounds like what Don Imus said on JAM’s ‘Nothing But Class’ – the equivalent of Merle and Earl singing in the basement of old Alexander’s (or whatever it said) …

“solo male and female- dubbed to give them a group sound”

I think Len G previously commented on the texture of using this particular technique versus that in stacking of genuine group singers that sing different vocal levels, e.g. baritone, etc, rather than simply piling one solo voice upon itself using different notes to create a form of psuedo-harmony.

As someone said – one solo voice 7 times is NOT a 7-voice group sing.

However, for the new Lincs Group stuff, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and I look forwards to hearing them properly on the S2Blue website at some stage, and only then will I see what i think of them. At least they’re sung jingles and UK-produced at a time of dimishing order-books for ANY of the companies here or in the USA.

PS – for me, the only “solo singer” to “successfully” stack a solo voice into a “group sound” was Kenny Everett – I never took the Bee Gees seriously ever again after that classic TV parody sketch :)

Don’t like those at all, I suppose when your a small station you cant really afford the likes of the quality jingle companies like Jam.

I like the tracks and vocals more modern. It’s a shame that they haven;t gone for any content they make nice beds up to breaks etc but what about into a show or out of a break? no slogan, no frequency just the station name – unless thee are cuts with more vocals ?

Seany- Lincs, Trax, Rutland, Fosseway and Compass have individually used JAM in the past (Ridings launched with TM). I think it was 2001 when Steve England’s package went out across the group to give it a uniformed sound and save some money in the process! In these struggling times, I guess Lincs were offered a very good deal for two custom packages.

Sorry mb, my understanding is that there are no other vocals- just the station name.

MB :”what about into a show or out of a break? no slogan, no frequency just the station name”

Yes it’s sad these jingles lack IMAGINATION….

Many of today’s radio programmers ‘play it safe’ to keep their jobs, keep their heads down. The jingle company just delivers what the client wants, it’s not their ‘fault’.

These stations ARE more ‘local’ than Capital Heart or Free stations so can get away with this for a while, BUT, long-term are going to sound DULLER and will lose listening hours if not listeners?
