Thanks Sean for updating us on this…………
When me and a couple of other jingle geeks (or should that be a couple of “radio guys” !) were recently at JAM in Dallas, we noticed a selection of framed letters on the wall of the main corridor leading into the studios.
These letters made very interesting reading. I spotted a letter of thanks from Johnny Beerling at Radio One in the 70`s, another from WABC and lots of other radio station bosses, all thanking JAM for their creative production.
Something that we didn`t notice though, untill Jon Wolfert pointed it out, there is a letter of thanks from every year since 1974 up untill 2004 on the wall. It`s a chronology of letters spanning 30 years.

MemberAuthorYeah, corridors lined with letters marking the landmarks of JAM along it’s 30 year history – and now there are the photos with lots of references to Radio 1 and pictures of the various singer combinations, both Dallas and LA.
Matching the voices to the faces while listening to the packages . . . !!
I know of another 30th anniversary site that’s currently in the making and should be “up there” in time for the official birthday which is November 22nd, I believe.

Man, I’d love to see that “Drive Module” promo for myself. Harry Marks did a lot of the cool graphics for NBC, ABC, and (for those Brits in the audience) the 1989 Sky Television stuff. (Sky One, Sky Movies, The Movie Channel, etc.)

Maybe this would be a good time to ask why JAM doesn’t put any of their newer jingle packages on the web site? Are they strictly doing re-sings of all their old packages. It seems like years since they came out with anything new. I like their old stuff but I thought it would be nice to hear newer stuff.

I just love the picture of Jon Wolfert with Johnny Beerling and Tony Blackburn in that lovely old wooden Radio One studio from 78.
Fantastic stuff.

A very interesting feature- thanks for pointing it out.
Interesting to read that perhaps the most remembered Radio 1 package “The Best Sound In Britain” wasn’t actually recorded in either of the two main studios JAM has resided at (Insurance Lane and Parkdale Drive) I wonder what station eventually had the honour of being the first client to have a session in the new studios, as Radio 1 had wanted?
David, While you were at JAM did you hear of any new C D releases planned, for the 30th or perhaps a new demo compilation?

Thinking about it, is this an error on http://www.jingles.com/cgi-bin/photoalbum.pl?pic=41&era=album80&ret=jaminfo I thought the 1987 package was “Britain’s Favourite” and “The Best Sound..” was the 1984 package??

I notice that there wasn’t any photo’s of Alfasound or Steve England in that collage. Top Format got mentioned twice though. Is there any reason why Steve has been left out?

Look again; There is this one of Steve England in the 90’s Album:

Yes. One will be a follow up to Classic Jam, but slightly different.

That is good news! Cheers for letting us know. Am I looking too deep into your wording, or would I be correct in thinking there’s more than one on the way?
In another thread Neal you mention Jon’s fondness for the BBC productions. Did you suggest a Radio 1 retrospective C D?!?

Quite possibly yeah. Jon was talking about a number of projects.
As for a BBC collection, nothing was mentioned.

Jon also mentioned another project for collectors, a kind of “before and after” compilation of demos. For example the “I`d rather be in…” demo was originally created for KIMN Denver and subsequently the demo was made for WROR Boston.
Here`s a question for you……can you name any other demo`s with the “before and after” treatment ?
I know there`s a couple of versions of Positron kicking about.

CORRECTION: not Positron, meant to write Priority One.

Metroline was originally for Metro FM in the UK. The demo was sent out with the Y98 St Louis resings.
Also, there are a number of custom cuts for the Chiltern Network (The Hot FM). These were later stuck in the Z World demo for Z100 New York.

Not forgetting “The Best Mix In Denver” for KIMN originally written for the Century Network in the North Of England.

MemberWhat about “Back Seat Music” originally created for WPEN Philadelphia but later released on demos for KRLA Los Angeles.

I think I’m right in saying that “Z World” also includes some cuts originally for 1FM? The DLT Treble Top bed for example is demo cut 26 (or was it the other was around?)
If you look at the JAM# column on the lyric sheet – http://www.jingles.com/pdf/ZWorld.pdf – those with the “CH” prefix are those from Chiltern, and those with a “B” prefix” are from 1FM. Those with just a number are presumably the Z100 customs. Any idea who cuts 15 & 16 with a “FR” were for?

I think you are right too. Cut 24 was a “97-99 1FM” custom cut (with “The Weekend On 1FM” as alternate lyrics). From what I can remember, Z100 never used that particular bed.

Just looking through the hundreds of photos we have of JAM`s Vault and I`ve just spotted a “before & after” version of The Authority.
On the master tape box label it says – “The Authority – Spanish Demo” for WQII 1140am San Juan, Peuto Rico.

MemberTalking of R1 jingles, there’s a cut they used in 1993 which contained the lyrics “The Most Music”, then a John Wells v/o “..and then some” and then 1FM sung at the end. Really catchy little number!
I’ve never managed to track it down and haven’t heard any JAM demos containing the original. Was it a custom? It certainly wasn’t part of their 1992 main package. Must’ve been an add-on. Does anyone know? Am I the only one who remembers it?!!!!
