WPEN Philadelphia is best known for Back Seat Music. Recently they’re gone back to JAM for new cuts, many of them last heard in the mid-1980s on Z-106. Here’s the full collection of the latest cuts as the station returns to its oldies format. I’ve included a couple of recent promos.

Thanks for those Geoff. It’s nice to see someone actually spending some money on jingles for an AM music station. Anymore, it seems like AM music stations are just automated jukeboxes with liners.

Yes, WPEN have got real DJs and have added reverb to their voices, just like WABC did. Apparently (I can’t quite catch the signal here in Suffolk, UK) the station sounds fantastic.

New resings are great. Thanks so much for the post. Do you have the resing of the weather cut for WPEN??

WPEN does seem to have one problem, jingle-wise: they use multiple logos, depending on the jingle…at least, that’s what Jeffrey T. Mason told me…

Frankly, I think such inconsistency isn’t very smart for on-air promotion…

(edited: Sorry Jeffro, got the facts wrong…)

I hadn’t noticed that they are logo sluts – but you’re right!
Afraid I don’t have a weather cut, but will see if I can track it down.

When I was programming WIMX in Harrisburg, PA back in the early 90’s, our main competition was “Wink 104” (WNNK). Wink signed on as a CHR in 1985, and used this top hour/legal id jingle from Killer Music for the better part of 6 years. It was SO catchy, and became SO popular, people would hum this jingle all over town, and EVERYONE would know “oh yeah, that’s the Wink 104 thing!”

With all the different logo melodies, kinda makes that tough. And isn’t that REALLY why we use jingles? For IDENTITY? We all learned the alphabet by singing the “ABC” song. We all remember “It’s a good time for the great taste of McDonald’s.” WPEN just seems to be a bit confused by the concept.

OK, I edited it, Jeffro. How ’bout you get rid of / change your response to my post, thus wiping out any mention of the issue, and let’s forget the whole thing happened…:)

Please don’t edit posts like that as it makes the thread inconsistant – far better to repost further down the chain to even things out..

We wouldn’t want to be forced to disable the edit function now, would we?

Sorry, David…I was just trying to make sure that the offending text was eliminated ASAP, so that the person who might be offended would never find out about it. :)

                        I won’t pull a stunt like that again…:)

I wouldn’t worry about it – we all make booboo’s every so often. I’m sure no one will take it personally.

And of course, we have the original text saved anyway.

Okay, as promised, I’ve managed to get hold of the WPEN weather cut (plus a couple of bonus cuts). Enjoy …
