MemberThe first time I ever played Reelworld jingles on the air was at Q102 in Philadelphia in 1996. We were using the first KTU package. I was on-air middays and imaging director. I'll never forget putting in that master CD the day it arrived from Seattle, and being blown away…by how poorly it was recorded. The vocals were hollow, yet over-processed to compensate. The mix of vocal to track was off. But, what really got to me was that the cuts on the disc would end BEFORE the decay of each cut was fully over. The jingles were cut off, and you'd hear the end of the previous jingle at the start of the following cut!
I understand this was VERY early in Reelworld's existance. Mastering techniques have definitely improved over the years. But, even on day one, Jon Wolfert would NEVER have allowed that to leave the studio. I am, was, and always will be a loyal JAM customer – that is, when *I* have a say in what jingles are aired. Thankfully, KOOL-FM is exclusively JAM these days! I also just ordered a fresh batch of cuts for “Jeffro Radio.” Always an exciting time for me
By the way, I don't say these things to flame Reelworld. I do enjoy some of their packages. I'm telling it like it is. Just the facts, ma'am!

MemberWhat a great thread this is proving to be – a genuine celebration of brilliant, meaningful jingles plus the return of a genuine jingle fan. Seasons greetings!

Wonderful having you back here Thierry!
KOST had such wonderful little songs I couldn't resist compiling some cuts…

You are right Andy, I mentioned that somewere too…

Really enjoyed that Marc – got me in the mood to do something similar – here's a montage of some of my favs. KOST cuts just fit together so well. Bryan is one lucky guy to get to play with these for real!
Enjoy

… though unlucky in having to play Christmas songs from the end of November!

MemberIt was very odd being in 75f weather in Dallas last week, hearing non stop Christmas songs on the radio! Very surreal.
Now, back in Manchester, snow and fog, and not a Christmas song to be found!

I have been blessed to play JAM jingles for 25 years, even during my time at sister station KBIG.
Yes, Christmas music as early as October does seem to be a uniquely American phenomena.

Jeffro, oh heeeeeeeeck yeah! i'm thankful that where you work at is still jam exclusive to jam! a huge jam fan! still listen to you 9-2! now, except tuesdays, i have to go out to riverside, (if you know where that is) but kinda catch you on the last hour. and, like i said, i plan to come out there during holiday. that is, if i get enough christmas cash. i'd love to spend at least 2 to 3 weeks up there.

Bryan, how long have you been working for KOST and KBIG?
December 6, 2010 at 4:53 pm #76667nostalgie
Thanks again to all of you for a cheerful welcome. Merci beaucoup!

About Christmas music, for the first time since I moved to Toronto in 2001, we only have ONE radio station,
rather than two, which plays Christmas songs all the time from the end of November: CHFI. The other, CJEZ
(EzRock – now BOOM 97.3) seems to have let the Holiday Spirit to his most serious competitor this year.December 6, 2010 at 7:56 pm #76669Bryan Simmons

I left KOST at the end of September 2001, spent the next 2 and a half years at KBIG returning to KOST in June of 2004. But even when I was at KBIG I still came over to write and voice the KOST Christmas Wish promotion, I also helped out and did a few fill-in shifts at KOST in 2002.

Bryan,
thought you would like to see this JAM video of you at KOST, that Jon Wolfert has put up on YouTube

MemberSheer class! …but those (live) v/os did sound excrutiatingly “Cheesy” to UK ears!
January 24, 2011 at 5:31 pm #77318Bryan Simmons
Thanks for the nice words. Cheesy, perhaps. The station sounded different in both content and style every few years. That was back when we were asked to be a little more deliberate with our deliveries. Nice little time capsule though! B

MemberThanks for posting again, Bryan. Any word on new JAM jingles for KOST? Last time I listened, they were back to the same mix of Reelworld One cuts, JAM Up2date resings, and older JAM KOST cuts that they were using before the all-Christmas flip.

I've been told that recording sessions for our new package will take place next month (Feb) in Dallas. Great news if you ask me!

MemberAgreed, great to hear! Thanks for the update.

Hey Bryan I was in LA a couple of weeks ago on business, listened into an afternoon show and it was nice to hear you broadcast live on actual RF but was disappointed to not hear any JAM…
Look forward to the results when I'm next over

Great news if you ask me!Great to hear that news but, should you be giving out what could be deemed as secret company information – maybe your bosses don't want the competition to know that they are getting new JAM jingles? Seems odd you're saying this . . to me.
