Just tuned in to hear the new erm..’jingles’ on Bauer owned Clyde 1 this morning. Irritating me already after an hour. Amazing what you can come up with on a stylophone!!…..
February 18, 2014 at 1:19 pm #93417mbMemberDreadful, cheap, Bauer clearly going for the cheap quick and unimaginative option.
ut easy to rollout across all like GWR just insert station name here.February 18, 2014 at 2:38 pm #93420scotronMemberAuthorWe the listener deserve better.
February 18, 2014 at 5:18 pm #93423LenGroatI think ‘cheap’ is the keyword. And ANYONE who understands ‘listener recognition’ knows they are far less likely to recall a name from these compared to SUNG idents. But perhaps these are just a ‘stepping stone’ to Bauer introducing a ‘one name brand’ across all or many of these services, so they WANT to bLuRr the identities, so that when one new name starts it won’t be such a transition?
February 18, 2014 at 6:15 pm #93424scotronMemberAuthorJust heard the Radio Clyde sonic version of into the news……Woeful…No soul and the five note motif means nothing.
February 20, 2014 at 10:08 am #93443IainJohnstonHeard the Northsound and Tay “variants” (?) while up at Aberdeen for the past couple of days. Will get to hear the Forth ones today – if I can be bothered.
Its Bauer’s equivalent of the Mecanno stuff for BBC locals – vast amounts of “input” (supposedly by Creative Directors, Content Directors, Marketing, Sales, etc rather than “Programming”) to devise something thats already “been done often before” and brings nothing new and is simply a pre-cursor to more networking. The 5-note “logo” actually has the wrong emphasis for the “wording” of the poor reheated old strapline that itself is desperately tired; if it had been sung the mistiming would have been obvious.
I also heard the “Scottish” presenter in the evenings – ex-pat Scot who has been in New Zealand for years and has no trace of any “British” accent – considering how many UK DJs and presenters have been binned in the past few years, surely they didn’t have to go the antipodes to “find” someone to front the programme?
Plenty of disscussion about the topic over at D*g*t*l-Sp*.
Allegedly though, there may be a couple of “sung” cuts on a couple of the stations???
February 20, 2014 at 1:10 pm #93451rakMemberJust listening to Metro – one sweeper says “Number One for the North East” – one word away from Len’s PAMS jingles almost 40 years ago.
Sounds slick enough, but not memorable.
February 20, 2014 at 9:04 pm #93461SpoonsHave to say, I think they’ve taken all the slickness out of Radio City. Heard Rossy struggling with them the other morning on breakfast. City used to sound hot coming out of the news – these kill the flow. And City did have one of the most memorable logos even if it was 11 notes.
February 24, 2014 at 1:14 pm #93503scotronMemberAuthorAnd just heard the George Bowie out of news ‘epic’ jingle on Clyde 1 this morning. It is meant to be tongue in cheek and funny. Sadly lacks any of those qualities.
