November 15, 2005 at 5:13 pm #25320DASI don’t suppose anybody has a copy of the “full” news build, as heard on the Bespoke demo? I think that quiet beginning is brilliant – if not incredibly frightening.

November 15, 2005 at 8:56 pm #25326goonerguySorry guys I’d better not breach BBC copyright on here by uploading stuff – or I’ll get into trouble ! The instrumental of the travel bed is on the Bespoke site, the middle bit is looped, while the end bit works as an end stab at any stage. Our actual file for the travel bed is a full 4 and a half minutes – most of which went out on April Fool’s Day last year when we played a prank on the trafficlink guy getting him to fill in !
I’m glad you like the news build – the original 90″ intro version is back on air now – it was designed to work under a variable length traffic news, read up to the pips, a sung station ident & crescendo, then a 60 sec bed for the breakfast presenter to preview what’s coming up ahead of the main bulletin. During the day we use a shorter 30″ version with space at the front to highlight how we cover big events or celebrate local success. Hear it each hour at http://www.bbc.co.uk/southyorkshire
Although we’ve asked for a top-up package, the top of hour news music will stay, as I think it works well. Suggestions welcome !

March 20, 2006 at 10:59 pm #25765Andy19So is there any chance of the full travel bed or top of the hour build up being leaked out now BBC Radio Sheffield arn’t using them anymore? 😉
How long had they been using the package that’s just finished, was it really in need of being replaced?

March 21, 2006 at 9:10 pm #25766goonerguyHi folks, I’ll check again whether I can now post them here. They’re both still great idents.
We started using them in late summer 2003, so I guess they’ve been on virtually every hour (for news) and every 20 minutes or so during the weekday daytime (for traffic) since then !
Two and a half years on and we decided the travel bed had been hammered to death. It’s still in use on a few other BBC local stations. GMR (or should that be BBC Radio Manchester) was the latest to nick it, er I mean, also use it.
We loved the 2003 news intro too – the instrumental is being used on other stations such as Cleveland & Cambridgeshire.
The new news music was commissioned primarily for our 530pm half-hour news prog. But it’s SO good, we felt we just had to use it more often. It does use the “BBC Radio Sheffield” musical logo while the 2003 jingle has the old BBC local radio ident as its musical crescendo.

March 21, 2006 at 9:59 pm #25767BigdaveAs Angus has said, the cuts have been on air for around a fortnight now,and have refreshed an excellent imaging package. They also give Radio Sheffield that “cutting edge” – very apt for the station for the Steel City!
BTW,Angus, are you still looking for those old RS cuts? – I have now all of my cuts as wav files ready to send…..

March 22, 2006 at 9:18 pm #25768goonerguyHi Dave, PM sent.
BTW – our package is another share with Radio Berkshire – with our “Football Heaven” replaced by “Reading FC” and “Not from Leeds not from London” replaced by “People you know travel you trust” etc etc
