      Hi All

The long-awaited new newsbeat package will be launched on Monday 6th June. It's all being kept under tight security; no leaks/demos yet, although these two things are 99.9% true:

      1) There won't be a 'sonic logo'
      2) The format will be pretty similar to the current ones.

I wonder if this will change the voiceovers aswell. The male voice has been used since June 2009, Holly (female voice), has been on since October 2008!

What a waste of licence payer's money – I predict just a noise over a drum and bass loop. Tell me I'm wrong!

Nice one, Newsbeat! Indeed this has been coming for a while, looking forward to hearing it. Shocked that the current 10/11 revamp never made it online.

Well well well. I was really looking forward to hearing these new jingles today and what a let down! It really feels like they haven't tried to better what they had! … very poor and we wait all this time for these LOL.

            Oh well…

Attached is a condensed version of the 6:30am bulletin from Monday.

I rather liked the old Newsbeat imaging – especially when used in conjunction with Moyles' jingles – but I think these are dire, with a ridiculous slogan. Moyles spent a good amount of his show on Monday taking the piss out of them, which amused me intensely.

To once again use the old Scots word…dreich!
Its like "McC&sso for Radio 1"

Often on this Forum, jingle anoraks are decried for daring to make adverse (but purely personal opinion) remarks about the latest products from alleged "jingle companies", and get a barrage of slagging themselves for hurting the feelings of the puirr sensitive wee sowels who have put such incredible artistic effort into creating something very hip & trendy-wendy and apparently up-to-date, but which just sounds absolute pish to any kind of "experienced ear"!

So, just to show its "not just us that say it", here's the opinions of some NON-jingle-anoraks…

Does anyone know who created it yet and more importantly, how much R1 paid for it. Can you get a refund on jingles?

They are from Koink who have done some other work for Radio 1

Functionl, basic, instantly forgetable and nothing other than a background drum bed. There is so little to review.
However with the BBC worldwide policy on productionthe music producers do not in my opinion have sufficient money for the work and becuase BBC WW want the publishing rights – there is so little margin that rather than look for composers to assist these things have to be done as cheaply as possible within the production houses to even break even. So you get imaging like this and the BBC Local Radio stuff. The policy is built to earn BBC WW money but on a model that has the nett result of in the main so far dreadful quality work.
Still you can be happy rather than each time its played the production company getting money cash floods back to BBC WW to fund more primeval !!!!

Boink…nice to see, that just like McCanno, they have an entirely NON-impressive "track record" in producing radio ID material for major world-class clients…even Frinton's old "EAP" had more customers!

…and that their flashy website graphics show that they don't understand that DARK GREEN lettering on a near-BLACK background is very hard for humans to read.

Still…musn't grumble…its "the style of the moment for today's exciting radio…"
