I just recently revisited the Jam album photos. http://www.jingles.com/jam/jaminfo/photos.html

Just a great way to see how Jam started out humbly in the jingle business. It’s nice to know those peeps behind these radio IDs. The operations team, everybody there in the staff. But it makes me really wonder who among these Jam guys is responsible for naming their Jingle package? Is it Jon himself, or does the client play a part in naming their new package? What was the craziest yet unique Jam package title created, anyway?

Is and always be our number one choice for jingles!

        Hi Coolnt,

My vote for most unusually named JAM package would have to be “Xyrock”, created for KRXY/Denver in 1988. According to the narration on the demo, they came up with name “Xyrock”of the package by making a word out of the station’s call letters (Yeah, I don’t get it myself but it’s a decent package anyway). :D

Let me see… I find it very funny to see them come up with a new ‘Coast’ package name everytime KOST gets new jingles: Along the Coast, Coast lines, On the Coast, Coast Effective, The Most Coast.

I think the best name ever is Uni-Que, also because of the joke in the demo (“It’s unique – No it’s Uni-Que, look there’s a little hyphen in the middle”)…

Yeah i said so, no package title is as unique as the Uni-Que!

Yeah, eventually they’ll run out of “Coast” puns and have to use something lame like “Bar Of Coast”… (Coast is a brand of soap here in the States)

During my six years as staff writer/singer/player there (1979-1985), it was my first-hand experience that Jon named every package himself. Occasionally a client would jokingly suggest a name themselves, I don’t know if any of those ever made it to final (‘Berkotron’ is the only one that comes to mind from that time period, courtesy of lifelong JAM client Gary Berkowitz).

                    Berkotron! LOL

I guess i understand JOn on that process, he has to consider the viability of the package name, if the name really sells or not, though the audio content (jingles themselves) still has the make or break thing. If im not wrong, Z100’s Steve Kingston did suggest Z World and made it on the shelves! Hey! How about all the other Z packages, did Z100 name them all?

The only two Z-100 packages I was involved in were both names of Jon’s origin, Flame Thrower (nicknamed ‘Weed Whacker’ by then JAM engineer Craig Turner) and Warp Factor.

Thanks for posting about “Berkotron” Bruce. This package was discussed on Jinglemad some time ago. In fact, I recall it was about year and half ago that Berkotorn was mentioned. I was sent a copy of that package (thanks to Bob Dinan :P )

Here`s some cuts from Berkotron. The more mature JAM fans will realise what package this metamorphised into…. :)

Gary had a big influence on packages that became succesfull like the ones he had made for WKQI/Q95 and WNIC in Detroit…

I am very curious what the next WNIC-package name will be:
                          Even Nicer
The Nicest Yet (already mentioned here before)
                          Nice-Cream

                          Any suggestions?

I asked Jon Wolfert about Berkatron last year. This was his reply –

“That was never the real name of a package. Those tracks were part of a small custom package which we did for WHYT Detroit for (then-PD) Gary Berkowitz. Gary always liked our “Positron” package, so we jokingly called his project “Berkotron”. But the tracks were later re-sung for Z-100 and combined with some other cuts to make the package called “Red Hot”.

U-uh! no idea, but im sure the word “NICE” would be present. 😆
