They are definitely both Pennine 2, but appear to be from two separate and different dubs. Just as an example, the forth cut on the Pennine 2 package on #56 is the “Pennine Weather” intro without the bed, but this is missing from Pennine 2 package on #58. There are other differences throughout.
October 8, 2017 at 9:51 pm #102142IainJohnstonI can also see why there’s some confusion with this…
I have TWO versions of the 1984 full package, and also the have 1979 one.
Some of the 1984 is resings of 1979 cuts, but “losing” the wavelength etc and having just “Pennine Radio”
instead of “Pennine Two Thirty Five” (metres) and so on.Also, one version of 1984 also has some supplementary resings that include “A Breath of Fresh Air” and
“Best Local Radio in Britain” vocals.Still very much Alfasound style of the time when they were starting to make serious headway with their product,
and worth getting the dubs from MPF for any Collector.Since the MPF sampler is a bit brief, here’s a deeper selection.
NB – I’ve degraded the audio a bit to protect the interests of the Copyright holder and the Licensee :^)https://soundcloud.com/allthebestjingles04/ij-alfasound-pennine2-1984-samples
https://soundcloud.com/allthebestjingles04/ij-alfasound-pennine1-1979-samplesPS – any Weather cut that might sound just a bit like a TM Design 70/72 cut for WNBC New York
I’m sure is “entirely co-incidental”… -
