I’m in the process of lifting jingles from MiniDisc onto my computer as mp3; only trouble is a complete jingle package ends up as one mp3 (or single track if burned to a CD).
Is there any software out there that can automatically detect silence in an mp3/wav file and splt it up accordingly into a number of sepearte files?
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks.
August 26, 2004 at 10:49 pm #24153AdminI haven’t come across any yet. Sadly I don’t think there any programs out there that do it.
When faced with a complete file that I need splitting up, I load the waveform into Protools and split it up cut by cut. It takes time, but it’s the only way as far as I know.

This should go into a new Tips & Tricks FAQ section, I reckon.
Perhaps we could start it with this subject!
Here’s a link off Adobe Audition’s Forum on this subject:

Don’t know if it works either!
However, this next one I’ve tried with good results and is well worth the $9.95

Then, brand new (and perhaps written for you?) there’s this

Again, no personal experience.
Best.

Then burn the project to CDRW (reusable) and re-rip it to the hard drive as separate tracks.
Much quicker than going through a massive file, cutting and pasting into new files, saving them separately etc…
Wavelab claims to be able to detect silence and put in track markers while digitising/ingesting from MD, but I’ve not sussed how to get that to work.

I’ve managed to successfully split files in CoolEdit using the instructions given in the Adobe Audition’s Forum link provided in Sean’s post; I cannot believe I didn’t bother looking through all the CoolEdit functions. Anyhow, thanks again.
