Read in the paper on Friday that Moyles actually writes his own jingles and has 'negotiated' a £15 a pop fee from the BBC whenever he plays one. This amounts to £75K of licence payers money on top of his £675K show fees per year. MP's have alleged that he is playing them more than he should in order to boost his earnings !

I assume that when the paper says 'he writes' they mean he's penned a few of the more contrived and tacky lyrics. I thought stations paid a one off fee for a jingle – licenced for so many months – and that they could then play it as much as they liked within this period without any further cost.

Taking this a step further – when a station pays say Steve England £400 a cut for a two year deal do they have to pay any more as they go ?

God Bless the BBC. Only they could be so stupid! I very much doubt any commercial broadcaster would do such a terrible deal. Still, it's only the public's money, so it doesn't matter

The BBC is not being stupid, and yes it's the same for any broadcaster. When music is aired – whatever it is, even someone singing Happy Birthday – the music should be logged and the returns sent to PRS. Whoever wrote and performed the track then gets paid. As I said in the other thread no one has done anything wrong and in fact it's all in the open – Chris Moyles is the name on the PRS logs. The same applies for the likes of IQBeats/JAM/Steve England etc etc.
