Looks as if the UK trend for musical beds and no vocals continues:
Mellow Magic gets new jingles from Wise Buddah

March 16, 2016 at 10:06 am #99692LenGroatI think these are primarily aimed at a more mature female audience – ‘oldies’ stations tend to attract 65-75% male listeners.
In the 70s these would have been called ‘Library music’ and to me they sound like in/out of break themes for a TV soap opera about a hospital or motel…..
March 16, 2016 at 10:23 am #99693scotronMemberThese are just music beds as we call them in the world of TV. Not jingles at all.
March 16, 2016 at 10:42 am #99694mbMemberHang on guys – I thought these go back to the tradition of Instrumental versions of jingles VERY popular in the 70s and 80s – I give the example of Red Rose / Piccadilly by Sue Manning that had instrumental version of jingles used heavily. Also the Alfasound tradition of instrumental versions in different styles – Like the Asian Centre Radio jingle etc.
I’m a bit surprised they didn’t come up with a new logo as its a bit Magic 105.4 but I guess they were trying to make the brand connection – they can certainly use these on the main Magic network.
Isn’t it nice to see jingles created in different musical styles to support a station.
Although there are some great mellow style vocals from TM / JAM that could give a great mellow sound to the station.March 16, 2016 at 6:29 pm #99699MarcMannetjeI think the music tracks our beautifully arranged, and well composed.
Secondly: JAM did a bed package with just group shouts on a strong audio logo called Power Up:

Thirdly: a lot of big and very succesfull stations get great ratings by just using sounders, beds and a strong repetative logo. NRW (Radio NordRhein Westfalen) and many others reach shares of 30% or more in multi million markets.
I think ‘taste’ is not always a good argument. Ratings are: they don’t lie.
