      Hi guys,
Radio 2 started using their groove addicts package in 1997. I know they had a few more cuts added in 2003, but they are still using jingles from the original 97 package. That makes it 11 years of use. Is this a record?
I am not talking about a package that has been resung some 20 years later for another station in my question. I am talking continual use.
Can anyone think of another station that has continually used the same package for a long time.
Maybe Radio 2 should go in the Guiness book of records?

In the early ILR days some packages lasted 3 or 4 years but on average I think it's about two nowadays as the number of cuts is vastly less than it used to be. Anyone remember the luxury of Girls, boys, both, instrumentals for about 99 cuts??
Unfortunatly the radio 2 package keeps being the sacrifical lamb on the alter of costs. I think they were all set for a new package a couple of ears ago but the budget went on Chris Evans instead!!! :(

I did read somewhere that David Arnold's 1984 Radio Mercury package was used to about 1996. In the latter years It was used with the Alfa/Jam resings and a TM/David Arnold custom in 1991 aparently but i don't know if this is accurate ?!

            You've all forgotten Sunrise Radio!

Still using their TurboZ cuts . . . (whether they have relicensed them is another thing – it is Bradford!)

Speaking of Radio 2, Star FM in the Philippines is still using its Radio 2 resing from Jam. Star FM started out in 1995 and up until now, their jingles are still on air. If you could remember, it was included in the Jam in 20 Years CD. Along with the Radio 2 Its All For YOu Package, Star FM is still airing the KLUC package from Thompson Creative Up Until now.

              Download

two packages from jam and Thompson creative from 1995, so that's like to two jingle packages still on air in 12 years!

I wonder if they're still using them in Southall (The birthplace of Sunrise Radio) ?

                  A piece of background information…

In the good old (bad old?) days of MU and IBA regulations, stations were only allowed to licence a package for 2 years, after which they had to pay a re-licensing fee, OR produce a new package.

If you did a new package the previous one was re-licensed automatically, so most stations changed every 2 years.

Radio Trent (and Chiltern) were exceptions as the MD's of both were under the mistaken impression we had to relicense ANNUALLY

I never told my MD at Trent it was every two years! I wonder why… !? !lol

This partly explains why between 1980 and 1993 there were packages numbered Trent 1 to Trent 14 !!

I realize that this post is mainly about ILR stations but I know of a hospital radio station (HRST – Hospital Radio South Tyneside) that ran with the Hospital Song from Dave Langer for 20 years ! !grr

Very true! The hospital station i used to work at played it. I'm suprised Ivan Brackenbury hasn't used it on his stand up routine yet. In fairnesss to Dave Langer though, the second version of the Hospital Radio song was much better.

Gotta be Radio WM. A few of their Feb 1988 JAM jingles were still being aried in 2001. Probably off the same carts.

Even though we (and I'm sure the folk at Western House) would love to hear a new R2 package – credit has to go to Groove Addicts who created something that has stood the test of time. The cuts still work well on the station with todays playlist, as much as they did 11 years ago.

I know stations who have launched new jingles and pulled them after a week or just a few days. Hmmm, money well spent. Not.

Speaking of shortest time packages were on air, didn't BRMB's Reelworld resings of the B94 package last a week before a new PD took over and dumped them?

Forth used to change their jingle packages every two years, although one (the 1987 Great Music Radio package) was used for just over a year.

Radio Borders used re-sings of Forth's 1983 “News & Information Station” package from launch in 1990 until it was finally replaced in spring 2000. There were a few add-ons during that time, but the basic package runs Radio 2's one close in the longevity stakes.

Here in the states, KKPN used the RW Kiss S 04 package from January 2006 until today when a new PD took over and went with Kissville.

Not BRMB, But Hay, 2 Years!

The shortest time for a station package would be WBZI O-Clair who used the Kiis la 07 package for 2 months and dropped them for Kissville.

Hmmm, somehow I missed this thread when it was first started, but Cody's recent post alerted me to it and I just had to add something.

Here in New Zealand, Whakatane's 1XX commissioned a measly two cuts (plus mixouts) from JAM's Fresh Kiss back in 1987. Amazingly, they're still on air today.

Incidentally, at the same time they also commissioned 3 cuts from the Fresh Kiss package for their short-term sister station 'Splash FM'. These were used on air for only a few months before the station ended its run in early 1988.

Anyway, I think 21 years is a pretty good record!

So far here in the states, The longest time a station ever used a package is WFMB who uses Thompson Creative from 1994-Present. So for 13 years in America so far.

(I've still got a bit of it left on a tape from the station circa 1972…somewhere!)

Actually, they had some pretty good jingles over the years. I even heard that “Around the Bay Of Plenty…” cut on air a year or so ago as the opening jingle to some nostalgia show they were running.
1XX sure knows how to get good value from their jingles!
