Whilst listening through some of my old cassettes, I found this “Off-Air” recording from 1983 of some of the excellent Les Reed original Country Sound Jingles.
Unfortunately mono only as they were recorded from High Wycombe at the time and the Stereo signal was too hissy!!

Mmmm I have quite a few of these, in the clear, but the full package has never surfaced, – even Mike Powell and Les Reed don’t have copies. The package sounded good in parts but was plainly dischordant in others. The presenters I knew at the time (Simon Cummings/Mark Walker) said it was not very practical to use on air – the end logo was too long and could only be played into slow songs. It was really a theme that was stretched out into a jingle package.

Thanks for posting these, Pete. I quite like them, and hadn’t realised the main Les Reed theme is so similar to the Alfasound packages. Quite an old fashioned sound, but still nice.

If you listen to County Sound 1by Alfasound, you hear Mike Powell and Steve make reference to how they interpret the original Les Reed theme for the new package.

What Alan Fawkes did as an arranger, was tighten it up, with a far more positive vocal sound.
