Okay, this time no gradual release, no hype, (no rebranding) no video.. just a $hit HoT re-sing of a TM jingle from ‘Star Spangled’! This has already been done for various other ‘radio people’, anoraks, and ‘Old men’ like me! I did not know this until Sean at iJingles kindly sent me some other re-sings. It is THE stand-out cut from this (country) package ~ strange how that musical elements add so much vivacity and ‘fun’ to it !
Yes it’s ‘Radio Like It used to Be’.. or IS it ?
Many thanks to Sean, and Greg Clancy, Jeff Oxley, Bruce Wermuth, Kay Sharpe and Annagrey Labasse, the same vocal team as my ‘song’. I’m now friends with three of them on Facebook… and Annagrey has just had a daughter (congratulations) so the next generation of Dallas jingle singers is already started!!
Love it, or hate it, or ‘wish we could use some real instruments like that’, here it is !
LG Really Groovy 70s Sunday JM by Len Groat
March 16, 2012 at 9:57 am #82757DevawebMemberA great cut Len. One of my favourites too.
A quick story – I heard this jingle on the air on Glen Rose, TX, on KTFW 92.1 and immadiately dug out the package when I was back in TM the following week. Star Spangled Country is an excellent package, and I think I’ve still got a montage of the cuts – I’ll check when I get home.
March 16, 2012 at 10:00 am #82758IainJohnstonMemberNow THAT and the “Free Radio” cut 7 Len posted are both the same length (0:17) – and I think I know which one “packs in” a lot more imagination in its lyrics and more “classy” performance in its vocals!
The “Seventies Sunday” at the end Len – is that a “bolt-on” or was it in the original “brief”?
March 16, 2012 at 10:08 am #82762LenGroatChris ~ thank you!
In my ‘next life’ I want to come back as you and spend 5 years actually working in Dallas! I’d learn the 90% I still don’t know about jingles and writing music and vocal parts.
I can REALLY ‘hear’ this re-sung for some of your weekend shows on Smooth, or your 70s station …… any chance !?
Iain ~ the ‘end tag’ is as per the original and suited my purpose as it makes it a ’70s Sunday’ jingle for my Trent Sound show, but the mix WITHOUT it is usable anywhere, and still sounds ‘complete’… so ‘best of both worlds’ ~ it’s a LuLu of a cut!
March 16, 2012 at 10:34 am #82765BigdaveI’m now wanting a new personal cut after that!
That’s great stuff,Len…the vocals are tight as the proverbial, and I know it will sound fab on air.
March 16, 2012 at 11:06 am #82768simon_t123MemberTo echo Bigdave’s comment there … FAB for iJingles / internet use its always a challenge to make sure you get the most usable amount of material from your personal cuts order as Len has done here … I’ve certainly done that on various orders to increase mixes, some of the best TM cuts for mixes in the modern style are the Viking FM packages, with their full and lite mixes, one cut had a 45″ a 30″ a 20″ and ID versions, sooooo much there & am fairly certain Len you like to get in there on chosing those lyrics but so great what we can have access to these days !!! On a related point, our true JM collector chums can justify short cuts being sung purely for pleasure which I sadly can’t due to funds … But back in the 90’s you could only dream as an individual of owning that TM or JAM cut you really love, good times …
great jingles !!!
March 16, 2012 at 11:53 am #82769BarrasAnother great cut and resing Len, love it and I hope you like this montage I`ve just put together of cut #13 from Star Spangled Country…enjoy.
March 16, 2012 at 12:25 pm #82770Good Time OldieNice cut there Len – I trust you won’t be doing a cheeky “edit” as I know someone on here that had some very original wicked lyrics sung on the front of this cut, you appear to have picked the very same ending as him too (minus the “70s” bit) -Sean?
Nice job!
March 16, 2012 at 2:39 pm #82772LenGroatGooD Time Oldie: well spotted ! As much as I like many TM / JAM cuts I only get ones where my name really ‘fits’. To make it ‘work’, I needed ‘The Original’ at the end… and I think it works well. I also used it on the WMAQ Chicago song so it’s now built into my mini 2012 package.
BIGDave: thanks
Simon: Yes I got some VERY usable mix-outs!
Barras: thanks for the compilation.. GOSH this cuts S O A R S… !!
I just re-lyiced it for Chris (Devaweb) as I was shaving…… the ‘the’ at the front is a quick ‘throwaway’ and comes in earlier, before the bar on the demo lyric version…

March 17, 2012 at 3:31 pm #82799LenGroat……Just a quick accapella for Saturday !

March 20, 2012 at 12:28 am #82884mjb1124MemberWhat can I say, Len’s been knocking it out of the park with every cut he’s chosen. I keep getting this one, along with his other TM cut, stuck in my head. Props to Len, along with the folks at TM and JAM/PAMS, for great jingles “like they used to be”.
March 20, 2012 at 1:12 am #82885LenGroatThanks for the kind comments. I know I’m easily regarded as ‘old-fashioned’ but listening to the awful mess programmers/ suits are making of stations now, and the endless syndication /buying-up (today Atlantic in Cornwall by Heart) I get the feeling British listeners NEED some good old-fashioned FUN radio to make up for the insecurity of living there at present.
Ultimately ‘good’ jingles are ones you cannot STOP ‘singing in your head’….
I’ve posted my Blog about radio station songs in another topic; would love some feedback ~ we all need to keep learning and listening…
