In a recent thread, David Barras mentioned that he hadn’t heard many legal ID jingles with “HD1” sung. The WDRC and KLUV cuts were exceptions. I’ve got something that I’ll bet is a FIRST for this board. This package wasn’t done for an HD1. It was done for an HD…2! For now, I’ll just give you the top hour cut…to wet the appetite.
KOOL-HD2 Legal ID (Reelworld – WLOL Package) by Jeffrey T. Mason
February 23, 2012 at 11:52 pm #82316IainJohnstonMemberJeffrey – here in the UK & Europe digital radio is done in a completely different technology from the USA IBOC systems.
So is HD-2 (Hybrid Digital, not High Definition…) actually a TERTIARY signal, i.e. not just a 1st (HD1) digital signal carried on the back of the primary analogue FM station but a further 2nd one “beyond” that? (and presumably at an even smaller bit-rate???)
February 24, 2012 at 12:52 am #82324amigoMemberWIXY, HD piggy-backs on the main frequency. You can have up to 4 digital streams on the back of the analogue one. Here in Montgomery, Al we have 95.1 WXFX The Fox in analogue, then 95.1 HD 1 is the digital version of the main station, HD 2 is a mono re-broadcast of WMSP Sportsradio 740 (AM) and HD 3 is a re-broadcast of WLWI Newsradio 1440 (AM). Bit rates are low. There is an 8 second delay to the HD 1 signal so some analogue stations delay their output so that the audio matches when the tuner switches. HD 2, 3 and 4 are delayed by about 1 min as they are digitized, and mixed with the digital signal to send to the transmitter.
February 24, 2012 at 2:43 am #82326JAM / PAMSMemberJeffro et al… I think we may have that KOOL cut beat. We did one in January 2008. Here is the first “specifically HD-2” jingle I can recall producing at JAM, using a track from PAMS “Philadelphia Story”. It’s somewhat amusing to consider that they selected a package from 36 years earlier to promote the new technology!

(PS. How do you add audio to a message here on the re-designed board?)
February 24, 2012 at 4:05 am #82328loujosephsJon soundcloud is the way to go. Set up an account or tag onto the jinglemad account. Pretty easy…the only problem I have noticed is that some things you convert from say Real are not picked up by the cloud’s software even though when you look at them it says they are mp3. Go figure..
February 24, 2012 at 9:44 am #82329IainJohnstonMember“soundcloud is the way to go” – but it can have some problems for some JMers…but at least “under investigation”…
Amigo – thanks for the deeper insight into IBOC – at least USA FM/AM radios won’t theoretically have to be junked like ours if UK DAB is forced upon us – then again IBOC does have “hatching”…
February 25, 2012 at 4:44 am #82336loujosephsIBOC is not going anywhere, it’s like digital shortwave, kind of a neat idea but it didn’t quite germinate.
February 25, 2012 at 6:10 am #82337mjb1124MemberAnother example is KRTH, which has a sung acapella legal ID by the Johnny Mann singers that goes “KRTH, KRTH-HD Los Angeles”. And I’ve also heard a “K-Earth HD2” jingle on their subchannel.

http://www.jingles.com/audio/stash/WCNY-PS.mp3Sounds great – such an iconic jingle. When, as Young Bobby D, I was staying in Pennsylvania, circa 1978, WFIL and outlying stations lie WLEV Allentown were still playing that cut to death.
February 29, 2012 at 1:29 pm #82385BarrasThanks to Jeffrey T and Jon Wolfert for posting actual audio of HD 2 jingles, I`ve just realised today that I have an HD jingle in my jingle collection from 2008, it doesn`t mention HD-1 or HD-2 just “HD” for CBS`s Psychic Radio show, it`s sung by TM and here it is in-the-clear…
N.B. so there`s a nice surprise for all of you collectors downloading at the moment, an HD jingle by Reelworld, JAM-PAMS and TM
February 29, 2012 at 10:05 pm #82393jlehmann106.7 WMJX’s Smooth Jazz HD2 has had jingles for quite a few years… at least since 2007, probably a couple years before that.
March 2, 2012 at 1:07 am #82435BarrasOk, just need one from IQ Beats, which company do you think sings the “Smooth Jazz 106.7” ?
March 2, 2012 at 5:44 am #82441945KBAYguyThat WMJX Jingle is from the KOIT Thompson Creative version of that package. It was later re-recorded and demoed for Warm 98 when Bruce released it under his Zone name
March 2, 2012 at 9:53 am #82448BarrasHey, thanks for that 945KNAYguy, didn`t realise it was Thompson Creative…as I said before, need one from IQ Beats and any other companies too and then we`ll have a nice little collection of “HD” jingles !
