Adding another three to the list, I think Manchester's Key 103 have gone power intro crazy!

Nelly Furtado – All Good Things (Come to an end)
      James Morrison – Wonderful World
      Take That – Patience

Not had chance to records any Paul, but just noticed some of them have now appeared on the On The Sly Website (http://www.onthesly.co.uk/) – so I'm guessing that OTS have either produced them, or mixed using Acs from the current Reelworld package.

          Add to the list:

The Kooks – I love her her beacuse (first heard on air last week)
Oasis – The Masterplan – not heard it on air yet – bit overkill me thinks!

I don't think I remember a time when they've had so many different Power Intros for current songs.

Also, the Reelworld package has been on air for a year this week – and still sounding great!

Well it's very nearly two years since the Reelworld custom was fist aired, and the package is still in heavy use (albeit without “Manchester's number 1 hit music station”) and in my opinion it still sounds great, and hasn't become too tired. You've got to hand it to Key 103, they know how to use jingles to their best, none of this one jingle an hour business! I wonder if we'll hear any new cuts, or perhaps even a new package in the next week? Perhaps to go with their current strap line “all the songs you love” as Rock FM did a couple of months ago.

Rob – you’ve beaten me to it there – certainly some interesting comments in your post. I was only thinking the other day that the Reelword Key 103 2006 package has been on air 2 years this week.

I agree that it’s still not sounding overly tired although I think 2 years is long enough for a package like that and it’s now time to move to something new for 2008.

To be honest I kind of lost interest when they stopped using the “Manchester’s No1 Hit Music Station” tagline cuts, as the sung locality (very well) was one of the things that made the package for me. Two or three presenters used to use the ramp beds of these really well, sadly not many. With regards to the sung cuts, other than the Toolan versions and Key to Manchester’s weekend versions, all I seem to hear nowadays are the shotgun versions.

It always gets to me when stations ‘waste’ a package or prematurely limit it’s use by changing the station strapline. Fair enough if they have the relevant bits resung! The same thing disillusioned me with Radio Aire’s 1996 Mezzo and 2004 Reelworld packages when they dropped the “Only the Best Music” and “Leeds Number One Hit Music Station” tags shortly into the life of the package. At one time these would have been resung. I’m sure many stations these days do similar things.

I’m not doubting the value of the Key 103 2006 Reelworld package. In fact, it’s one of my favourite ever CHR packages. It’s just somehow sounds different to other stuff. To be honest, I’ve probably played each of the cuts in Greater Manchester more times than they’ve been played on air!

Inetresting you mention Rock FM. I can honestly say thought that I’m not keen on the recent ‘Reelworld One’ cuts that Rock FM have had. They seem a little bit too generic and off the shelf in some ways.

However, the 2007 TFMRadio package from JonesTM has had a similar effect on me to Reelworld Key 103 2006. I would love to hear it sung for Key 103’s new strapline. Not sure how (or if) it would go though. Perhaps “All the songs you love… Manchester’s Key 103” or (probably better) “All the songs you love…. Key 103 Manchester”? Here’s hoping! Whatever goes on next cuts will struggle to beat that last Reelword package. I sincerely hope that the next package does sing something to do with Manchester, Greater Manchester or the North West (latter I doubt otherwise they’d now perhaps have the regionals complaining)

I do get a bit disillusioned by the amount Key 103 seem to spend on imaging the breakfast show “Toolan in the morning”, which is packed with sung jingles from 3 sources – Reelword, JonesTM and Cole Page. If they used the same level and quality of imaging all day long the station would sound much more polished and slick. I guess it’s all to do with the fact that UK stations seem to believe they get more listeners in the 6am – 10am hours. What do I know about radio though… I only listen to it for hours a week, not work in it ;-)
