In today’s Times profile of Ken Bruce he says:

“When we meet he has been listening to his “big and bright” new GHR new jingles.“I always like to have opening jingles in three different keys so they will match the first song as closely as possible. You’ll notice it if you’ve got perfect pitch, and I don’t have perfect pitch or anything close to it, but if it sounds right, then you’re happier, and if there’s a jar, as you go from jingle to song, it just makes you feel slightly uncomfortable, although most people can’t say why”

It’s interesting; I still hear slow jingles into fast songs and fast jingles into slow songs/intros, even on the big stations. I wonder if most people care about the ‘craft’ of making a radio show sound great anymore. Steve Wright was/is the master at this. I am not one of these that says “national radio is full of TV people” BUT you can still often hear the difference between a TV personality and a “radio jock!”

Would add to Tony’s comment – I don’t think I’ve EVER heard a “transition cut” being used
in its proper context in all the years (quite a few!) I’ve been listening to radio!

I’ve heard my share of proper fast-to-slow and slow-to-fast transitions – must be more of a US thing! (Or at least used to be.)

Shame can’t read this article as Wixy says, it is being a paywall.
