I know Wabc got jingles from Frank Gari in 83; and Sterling in 84- I had heard that bed without words as a filler on WABC (never knew it had words) and think it was with the Sterling stuff done for WABC. In listening to it, it maybe wasn’t meant for lyrics lol – they sound like they are reaching…

the “A-Team” @ JAM certainly had no part in penning those lyrics”

I’ll have to do some more searching for Frank Gari KABC Jingles & see what that turns up.

        Thanks for the feedback koloss

*I believe Thanks go out to Tracy Carman who rounded out this collection a while back in a thread I just re-discovered from August 2010

Tracy, would you happen to give an old JingleFan a thrill & post some more of those jingles for us to enjoy?

The “We Make A Difference” jingles were done by Sterling not Gari. The Gari cuts sounded less traditional, eschewing the familiar WABC melody. Here’s an example as previously posted by TC in the above thread: http://www.jingles.org/J31-43.mp3

Not sure about that KABC cut… it has some similarities to both of the above packages.

Update: Found this relevant quote from none other than Jon Wolfert on another old thread. (http://jinglemad.com/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/5798/abc-talkradio-beds/p1)

“KABC was already using an image package called ‘Direct Connection’ from an L.A. company called Klein &. It included TV spots, and a jingle package which was made by someone somewhere in LA. JAM was asked to supplement that jingle package and create the additional pieces which were needed to make it work on a network. In addition, we did a series of short “Talkradio” jingles in a matching style which were the exact length needed by affiliates to fill the gaps left by the network for local station ID’s. WABC decided to not use that network package of IDs, and instead had us do a custom package for them called “Talk To Us”. However, most of the network instrumental beds were heard repeatedly.”

I would guess that the KABC jingle posted above was from the “Klein &” package.

I didn’t think they were originally all from Jam.

Nice video from 2008. The jingle at 2:52 is from the JAM “Talkradio” package, which I mentioned in that old thread. The jingle at 3:22 is also JAM, from the “AmeriTalk” package.

The jingle in the TV spot that was posted was one of the cuts produced in LA by Klein &.

Curious as to if anyone knows who produced the jingles at around 3:10 in the KABC video. As I recall, there was a trend of a lot of news/talk stations using that package in the mid-90s. I’ve always wondered who put it together.

Those were from The Music Source in Seattle (now defunct). Originally done for KGO-AM, then re-worked for KABC. It was a very successful syndicated package and ended up on 20+ stations, including KIRO-AM and KSL on the west coast. A bit of Seattle jingle history: one of the composers from The Music Source went on to start Reelworld.

Any chance of uploading the Talkradio package from JAM, Mr. Wolfert? I’d love to hear it in it’s original form, and I’m sure I’m not alone.

                        Thanks so much!

In 1989 when I visited TM on Regal Row, they gave me a demo called “Talk of the Town” which had the TM logo and label on it. But the vocals did not sound like anything from TM or Dallas. It aired on WABC for some time.
