July 26, 2004 at 9:32 pm #13679BigdaveOf course , there’s the JAM and TM song , but I did’nt know until the end of last week that one of my favourite JAM cuts on the 20 years in 20 mins montage was actually a resing of a US chart song!
If you play the montage , there’s a cut that sings about ” We’re still the one !” … Well , after much searching , I found out that ABC , the TV company and media concern bought the rights to the song it’s based on , called “Still The One” which was a US Top 10 hit in 1976 for a band called Orleans . There is a full song which , when I find someone to host it , I’ll post here ! Not only that but the famous “77 W-A-B-C” sing is based on “I’ll take Manhattan” , which they also bought the rights to !
July 26, 2004 at 11:43 pm #13680OnyxPaulMemberABC ran various promotions with the slogan “We’re the one” and “Still the one”from 1976-79. Lots of Real Audio & Video versions of this theme are here
http://www.80stvthemes.com/promos/abc.htmlSky TV in the UK adopted the same slogan for their launch in 1989.

Seriously though this is a powerful jingle – it`s only 27 seconds in duration but you can understand why they nicked the theme of the song as it`s very memorable…………

July 27, 2004 at 2:17 pm #13682TServo2049Actually, the nicking of “Still the One” was not originally JAM’s idea…back in the fall of 1977, the ABC network used a re-lyriced version of the song as the theme to its national promotional campaign (I’m not sure if JAM produced it or not, but I know they did the local-station resings, as the blooper reel heard here shows…). Then, in the fall of 1979, they used it AGAIN; this version was produced by JAM. JAM also produced a localized sing for WABC-TV in New York (who frequently had localized versions of ABC’s national campaigns done for them)…which is, AFAIK, the “Channel 7” mentioned here.
July 27, 2004 at 7:27 pm #13683MikmoronRadio Hallam had a jingle that sounded exactly the same (well, very close anyway), to the orginal hit by the group Pilot called “January”.
I am also sure they had a “four seasons” soundalike song, possibly “Sherry”, I know David Hamilton had one done by Mr Rainbow to the same tune.
Of course Keith Skues had tons of jingles by famous singers/groups, but that was just another excuse for him to name drop I guess
July 27, 2004 at 9:50 pm #13685JingleMadMemberAuthorMetro Radio in Newcastle also had a jingle which sounded like Pilot`s January too………I`ll see if I can dig it out from the pile of tapes in the attic.
Here`s another cut for KMET – this one is sung in the same style of a rock/pop group called The Cars.

Metro 261 had several styled jingles including “Born With A Smile On Your Face” by Stephanie De Sykes, “Dancing Queen by ABBA, and “Save Your Kisses For Me” by Brotherhood of Man. I think they were all produced by EMIson in about 1976 – and great they were too!
July 30, 2004 at 10:57 am #13699JingleMadMemberAuthorHere`s that Abba-style cut from Emison for Metro Radio that enerjee is talking about – this jingle as you`ll hear is “the music in the North-East” – it was used as tag to other Metro Radio ID cuts.
