I used to love it when pop stars recorded special jingles (to promote their new single) for Radio 1, here’s one from Slade. https://soundcloud.com/user-223115677/slade-merry-christmas-noel-edmonds-jingle
Forgive me, it’s almost December. For those outside the UK, this song is still HUGE every Christmas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0A8KT365wlA
Bruno Brookes used a cut recorded by Wax, a version of Right Between the Eyes “you’re listening to Bruno Brookes, one listen and you’ll be hooked” but I’ve never been able to find a copy. The original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIRJYTTeAWkOctober 23, 2016 at 9:59 pm #100787wiggershes going to zap you right between the eyes, I’ve been after a copy of that jingle for years, perhaps Bruno has a clean copy…we can all dream
October 23, 2016 at 10:04 pm #100788DuncanNewmarchMemberAuthorHa, that’s the one. I had a copy recorded from the old teatime show but, most unlike me, I’ve lost it.
October 23, 2016 at 10:08 pm #100789wiggersi had a copy of that jingle too from an old teatime show, sadly the tape doesn’t play

Full length version of that jingle here. Unfortunately in medium wave though.https://jennyarnold.myknowhowcloud.com/item/50e7f05574a34d6aa3211f53842791bf

October 27, 2016 at 12:26 am #100801DuncanNewmarchMemberAuthorI knew somebody would have it, thank you Ian. I love the fact that Samantha Fox follows the jingle, I remember that being played at the time. Great mammary’s, sorry, memories.
October 29, 2016 at 4:42 pm #100817radiocitybillMemberOne of my all-time favorites is The Carpenters singing this track for KFRC – you’ll know it but I don’t remember the exact name for the package though the jingle is indelibly etched into my mind:
October 29, 2016 at 5:36 pm #100818IainJohnstonBill, the “You” Campaign, from the original TM Productions circa, 1972 (?), -ish
With Karen Carpenter’s vocals “stacked” in proper “radio jingle” style, especially on the “overlaps”
October 29, 2016 at 6:26 pm #100819GrahamCollinsOoh I like that a lot ! Thanks for posting Bill.
The Carpenters could have found permanent work in Dallas……
The first ‘You’ package was released in 1975 by the way.

Yes, it’s from the “You” campaign package by TM. Syndicated many times across the US and also for a station in the UK in 1977 as heard in this cut:

October 29, 2016 at 8:29 pm #100821enerjeeMetro had a few jingles sung by Lindisfarne. Here’s one:
October 30, 2016 at 3:45 am #100822michiMemberSomewhere in my collection, I have a clip of the Beach Boys singing KFWB Channel 98 at a concert… I also have a Tokyo FM jingle sung by Pizzacato Five (an 80s JPOP group)..

my thoughts exactly! Karen herself could’ve made a great solo/lead vocal for jam or TM!
October 30, 2016 at 8:06 am #100825mbMemberKaren Carpenter could have sung the phone book and made it sound perfect! Loved that You cut – A package sung by them would have been Amazing
October 30, 2016 at 8:55 am #100826GrahamCollinsThere’s a bit of a story about this version of the ‘You’ package – here’s an old thread on the subject:

October 30, 2016 at 1:05 pm #100827radiocitybillMemberThanks for the confirmation, Lain. I knew it was called “You” something, but couldn’t remember if the package title was more than just “You.”

You took the words right out of my mouth. It’s sad that such a voice was silenced at such a young age.

November 4, 2016 at 4:39 pm #100832LenGroatBack in 1975 we called these record ‘sing-overs’.
The UK record industry often provided several a week in the days there were only 7 or so ILR stations. Many were just for the station – one of the best known at Metro was Stephanie De Sykes hit ‘Born with a smile on my face’, played for MONTHS, so very clever cross-promotion by the record company.
Here’s a lesser known one – Adrian Baker’s ‘Candy Baby’ re-sung for me. He multi-tracked all the parts with Beach Boys style harmonies, and later was actually a backing vocalist for many of these tours.

No one was bothered about these at the time so I kept charge of them and nearly all from June ’74 to April ’76 are on on one 7″ reel which I had until a few years ago – it has now been passed-on to someone who cares about jingle history!
November 4, 2016 at 5:47 pm #100833GuyMemberI remember hearing a version of that Adrian Baker cut on Swansea Sound too – must have been Christmas 1977.
November 4, 2016 at 6:33 pm #100834GuyMemberActually – on reflection – make that Christmas 1975 (which would tie in much better with Len’s timeline above!). I can’t remember who the cut was sung for. It may still be lurking on a cassette somewhere.
November 5, 2016 at 11:51 pm #100839DuncanNewmarchMemberAuthorNot quite a pop star, I recognise Steve Butler here but did anyone hear this Gary Davies jingle played on Radio 1 or know who made it? https://soundcloud.com/user-223115677/mysteryjingles
November 6, 2016 at 11:41 am #100841GrahamCollinsMmm, Soundcloud says:
‘Your network connection seems to be disabled. Please check and retry’
Anyone else getting this ?
November 6, 2016 at 12:24 pm #100842mbMemberLen – out of interest as I was only 2 at the time Did they ever consult with the stations regarding lyrics and content for these. On several of these for Metro and others they refer to Radio Metro – Did they never check the names of the stations? Or were people just more lax on branding and names because there were less around?
November 6, 2016 at 2:21 pm #100843IainJohnstonI’ve got a number of such “songs” somewhere, in “reference quality”, but I’ve never really wanted to post them in
similar JM discussions to this in the past, because…a) poor sound quality
b) off-air recordings
c) used ad nauseum on one station in particular, often on BOTH sides of a break, with the station’s “proper ID jingles”
apparently left to rot after spending all that money on them
d) they often were utterly dire on-air
e) etc…and just generally I’ve personally at least never liked the vast majority of them!
