October 27, 2004 at 6:47 am #24353jkubiakGreat article David! I hope to be collecting jingles for many years. I was into jingles when I was about 10-13 years old. I was facinated by the jingles aired on KQQL (Kool-108) in minneapolis, which I later learned was a resing of Jam’s HyperLink. I was also facinated by the jingles that KEEY-FM (K102) was airing. I lost interest for a few years, came back in 1995 and was in love with the “Hot and Cool” package by Thompson Creative for K-102 in Minneapolis. I kind of side tracked myself for a few more years.
One day back in 2000 I was on Napster and typed in Jingles and found the WLOL Twin Cities demo by reelworld. I started to listen to that, and was hooked again. In 1999 I went to work for KSTP-FM in Minneapolis (KS-95) as an overnight jock. I liked the jingles I heard. I came in through the end of the Jam Evolver Package. We then comissioned a custom package from TM Century (Twin Cities KS-95). I still didnt know much about Jingles and which companies made them. In 2001 I was on Napster again. I found cuts from Z+ for WHTZ by Jam. I visited Jam’s website and found packages that I had never heard of and packages that were familiar to me. That struck my curiosity and I went on google and started searching for radio jingles. It lead me to all the major companies.
Jingles are awesome! The jingles a station airs, tells alot about the stations personality. I thought that since I liked jingles, I was “different” and possibly crazy because any one i asked about them thought I was nuts.
Jingle collecting is a great hobby and when I go home at night and start listening to jingles on my computer, it gives me a great feeling.
I hope that other jingle collectors feel the same way. They are fun to listen to.
Cheers.
