MemberThank you for posting Jon! Cut 1 is my favorite! I remember hearing it on WABC when I was able to pick up the station here in upstate NY, and being a huge Yankees fan, even though strange, I like the “Catch The Yankees” jingles

What a treat! These great years in radio sped by so fast it’s good to now be able to luxuriate in retirement and listen to great quality versions of packages we had on cassette back then – particularly when they are in StErEo!
By complete co-incidence we recently bought #12 from this GREAT JAM package. Note one difference, a boy/girl vocal sound.

Thanks Jon and the Team at JAM

Fabulous – thanks Jon.
The stereo demo is very nice to hear, although a hard limiter tool at 0dB has been run over the file and it sounds overblown to my ears. Your audio is normally in plenty of headroom space to breathe !

I’ve got to be honest –as a former New “Yawker”, Yankee Fan & WABC afficianado–with all due respect to Jon & JAM–these jingles refelected a very SAD time in WABC’s history. I listened to WABC EVERY DAY during the 60’s & 70’s–I was a WABC “freak” –writing down Cousin Brucie’s Tuesday Night Top 20 countdown, trying to record jingles on my tape recorder. I KNEW Dan Ingram’s PERSONAL “formatics” #1 hit of the week–second song of every hour–#2 & #3 hits alternated bottom of the hour–Series #30 jingle “Bom Ching WABC Strikes Gold” @ :45 past the hour–Pick Hit at :15 past…I was to say the least “emotionally invested”–so you can imagine in 1981 when WABC started playing the “You’ll Like Our Style” jingles, well not so “coincidentally” I DIDN’T like their style–or the jingles. WABC was a station of “excitement”–it felt as though someone had let the “air out of the balloon”! Again–I’m not criticizing Jon or JAM–as they do what the client wants–the powers that were at the time in charge of WABC had a good concept–“reconnecting with the audience”–but the audience grew up on WABC’s excitement–not “watered down presentations”, consisting of No Reverb, laid-back music & laid-back jingles. Some will say I’m JUST “bitching”–well, it’s not “bitching” if you offer “options”–quite frankly I would have Re-cut the classic jingles with the “You’ll like our style” lyrics–BUT I’m not on the payroll…
. Thanks anyway, Jon…

MemberPossibly my fav package for 35 years, so good to hear in stereo at last.
In all that time, I did not notice it was 4 boys. With the exception of cut 20 which sounds like the girls joined in?

MemberAuthorThanks for all the comments.
Who were the 4 vocalists?
You got 3 of them right. It was Chris, Johnny, Dan and Bruce Upchurch.
a hard limiter tool at 0dB has been run over the file and it sounds overblown to my ears.
The demo is almost maxed out throughout.
Thank you for mentioning this. You are quite right, something is completely wrong with that file. Our web audio should never go above -2db. It looks like there was an error converting the WAV file to mp3. I’ve seen this happen before and have a suspicion of the cause. This will be repaired as soon as possible. (The cut-by-cut audio does not have this problem. )
With the exception of cut 20 which sounds like the girls joined in?
Yes, that one cut was sung by a 5-voice group (2 girls, 3 boys).

Go to You Tube and type in WABC JINGLES and see what you get.

Yes a good discussion here and I realised I can add another version of one cut in audio that I posted on Soundcloud over 4 years ago.
It’s an alternate geographical location for the WABC # 12. It’s featured in a clip from the 1992 GEM-AM 5th Anniversary CD made for our listeners, on how a JAM jingle for the WABC’s ‘You’ll like our style’ was re-lyriced for our station in the (Great) East Midlands, Britain.
The voice at the front is the legendary John Peters, ‘the Dad of breakfast’ radio in the East Midlands on Trent, then GEM, and Saga…
And as you’ll hear I got the ‘M1’ onto our version back in 1992, and as I’ve just done, I had a boy/girl vocal group.
https://soundcloud.com/len-groat/how-a-jingle-for-wabc-new-york
We had to have it re-sung with an updated lyric as ‘Solid Gold GEM AM’ as I posted earlier, as we use that full name to differentiate ourselves from our friends at GEM 106, and of course are not for ‘The Great East Midlands’ but the whole UK now thank to marvels of internet radio.

MemberAuthorThe problem with the full demo mp3 file has been resolved. If you downloaded it for your collection, please grab it again and keep the repaired version.
Go to You Tube and type in WABC JINGLES and see what you get.
I’m sure you’ll get all kinds of things, including overly processed, off-speed, edited, noisy and incomplete dubs. Why wouldn’t you want to come to the source?

I can’t believe I hadn’t visited that page for that long!Any chance of adding any “non package” BBC Radio One/Two Cuts Jon?
e.g. Radio One 15th Birthday PAMS Cut, 20th Birthday Song…..Thanks,

Jon
I just threw it out there.
Ellis posted the STYLE on here before he made a video out of it.
But Yes I would rather come to the source.April 17, 2016 at 11:09 pm #99883glen
Let spill my heart on this.
Jon says why go the source.
Now first I’ve never asked JAM for anything (That I didn’t pay for )because the materials are copyrighted.
I quit going to radio stations after because the door gets slammed after they in my face.
I actually had a PD tell me that he could me jingles (that were at least 35 yrs old at the time) because they were still licensed to the station. Also they were on carts and you can’t dud off carts.
And my favorite was the guy from the station I used to work. I went to him and said can have a copy of the jingles and he said yes.
Well I asked for them he says well we just threw away.
Btw they were Jams New Tradition and TMs Rough and Ready and Sound of America packages.
What I’m trying to say is; unless from JM or You Tube I don’t collect.
I’m very appreciative of the cuts you post.
Thanks a bunch.April 19, 2016 at 10:03 am #99904martinlester

Hi Len
Can I ask what made you pick boy/girl vocal group.
As I the First Time I ordered a cut from this package I had never heard the Demo so assumed that the boy/girl vocal group was the Norm
(as Per Radio Leeds Package)As Luck would have it Jon did agree to re do it using the same vocal charts are per BBC Radio Leeds so what made you pick this combination as Jon normally does the Re sings as per Demo ?
April 19, 2016 at 10:35 am #99905LenGroat
Hi Martin
I originally ordered this in the days when I was doing a lot of jingles for GEM-AM and Trent and was always on the search for unusual cuts – but time was always of the essence!
Having found this on a copy of the (excellent) BBC Radio Leeds package I went with the boy/girl vocals as I’d never heard the original. Having got used to that for decades when I decided to get it again for the new GEM I just asked for it to sound like the one we first did.
Now I’ve heard the beautiful quality copy of YLOS there is a cut I DO want to get with the all boy vocals – assuming the track is available!

MemberI enjoyed listening to this and liked the extra sports cuts a lot. Cut 1 and the sports jingles (#17-20) are my favorites. When Dan Ingram’s name is sung (#8, #16), it sounds similar to the 1966 “Daaaan Ingram” logo made by PAMS. Since that jingle was so successful for him, was that intentional? All cuts are very effective and enjoyable…way to go, JAM!
