Spoons
Bit weird! But one of my favourite cuts ever.

MemberOh, give me a break! That’s just silly. Makes you wonder how many people called up American CHR stations back in the 80s, claiming “the deep voiced man told me to crank it up and rip the knob off. Now my radio is broken! Are you going to buy me a new one?”

MemberSimilar thing back in 1986 when Radio Caroline had their short lived promo that said “If you see or hear a radio not tuned in to Caroline 558 then smash it”!!! The promo got withdrawn cos someone complained though I’m not aware that anyone actually went and smashed any radios anywhere lol!

MemberI’m sure I read that the board of Radio Hallam were less than impressed with the Power Station strapline and jingles when they were introduced – hence the rather hasty Steve Butler resings and reworking to the 24 hour entertainment station – all that Power Stuff!!! maybe i’m wrong but for some reason it springs to mind. Maybe an ILR’er of the time might know – Len?

MemberIn 1990 Dutch broadcaster AVRO Radio 3 used cut#12 from the JAM Skywave package with the slogan ‘Zet ‘m maar harder’. English translation: ‘Turn up the volume’
Sounds wonderful. And I’m playing it loud with the windows open.

Hallam power ststion…
…is that these ones?
https://soundcloud.com/allthebestjingles/ij-hallampowerstationWish I could have heard these on-air at the time – they are utterly bursting with energy and not a wimpy Woah or Yeah in sight – and with Mr England on sonovox!
“Turn…volume…rip…” heard those on Island FM on Guernsey – including one basically saying one could now wind down one’s car windows with the radio on and “no longer be embarassed” – I think a dig at the shall we say twee-ness then of BBC Radio Guerns&y… ;^)

“Yes those ones”
Right-oh. I don’t have the “modified” (?) ones though.
With the originals though, every DJ got their “jock cut(s)” as they say in the States.
And some ILRs back then had a LOT of DJs/presenters!!!March 7, 2016 at 4:20 am #99637michi
MemberThe one thing that I have always been impressed about this SW-12 cut for AVRO is lyricing the entire jingle. Back in the REC phone days, I had thought about purchasing this jingle to give our mailing address (this was before e-mail)
REC FOUR OH SEVEN
P O BOX THIRTY SEVEN FIFTY ONE
CHATSWORTH CALIFORNIA
NINE ONE THREE.. ONE THREE
(of course, that address is long gone but the jingle lives forever in my mind) -
