As you all know Jam Creative Productions is 30 years old this year and i’m hoping that there will be a special cd to celebrate this. Listening to the 20th aniversary one made me think that back in 1994 Jam was the leader in the jingle world in all the formats more or less and well before 1994 too Jam led the field. Nowadays Jam is accociated with AC and Oldies stations if the demo download is anything to go by. However when i listened to the PRO Choice package i was impressed. About time too i thought and made a change from the DRQ package sound. PRO Choice sounded like a Reelworld package but with better singing. In my mind Jam proved that they could sound up to date but at the end of the day it’s up to the radio station and these days Jam seems to be the last choice in jingles which is a shame. Has anyone any thoughts on this subject
March 10, 2004 at 12:31 pm #23733UKJinglesMember30 years…..Just shows how good they are!
Not many other Jingle Companies have lasted that long….
Without merging or changing names!!
Has anybody contacted JW to enquire about a 30th Anniversary CD?Regards,
Pete.
March 10, 2004 at 1:27 pm #23735BrammyMemberI’ve got to say that, no matter what I listen to from the ‘New’ companies, I still get the hairs on the back of my neck tingling when I listen back to my JAM CD’s.
I just can’t listen to ‘Breakthrough’ without singing along!
I totally agree with Pete. They must be doing something right to still be here after 30 years and we still keep hearing their packages being re-sung!!
As for a commemorative CD I think it could be difficult to do. The one they did for ‘The First 20 Years’ would probably have covered most of the history.
Here’s an idea… What about a special CD box set of every package they’ve produced. There are a lot of rare ones out there that a lot of people would love to get their hands on. Maybe they could throw in a couple extra CD’s with montages or even re-sung packages?

I’ve just had mine on and I agree I really love the DRQ hot wired package and every CD is class demo after class demo.

Well i suppose with the Double Classic JAM CD a follow up classic JAM 2 would be nice. I’d also like to see a few people going back to JAM – Like Radio 2.

So when are they 30?
March 11, 2004 at 12:17 pm #23741InfernoI agree that Jam have done very well to going on as they are after 30 years. I just hope someday Radio 2 will see sense and use Jam for there jingles. Groove Addicts are good but outclassed by Jam. I remember the Groove jingles being used for the first time back in 97 (or 98) and Terry Wogan’s listeners were missing the Jam jingles.
In regarding hot AC style i.d’s i wonder how old are the jingle writers at Jam? Do they use young writers, Top Format say they do on there website, to do the hot AC jingles?March 11, 2004 at 1:15 pm #23742OnyxPaulMemberUnfortunately British radio is motivated more by profit than quality. When I was a programme controller I had such a limited budget for jingles that I simply had no choice but to shop for the cheapest. Had I had the budget I would have used JAM all the time. Other companies come and go, they always have. There have always been the novelty companies producing what some short sighted people think is ‘the in sound´but their jingles normally have a very short shelf life. Although these companies do well in the UK they are rarely heard anywere else in the world, maybe because of budget restraints or simply the lack of individuality and creativity which is now endemic in British commercial broadcasting. Only Pams, Jam and TM really stood the test of time. Jingles Jam made 30 years ago still sound a lot better than some of todays naff productions by newer companies. I hope Jam keep up the quality as I’m sure things will go full circle. That’s my pence worth! So there!
March 11, 2004 at 1:53 pm #23746JingleMadMemberI was in contact with Jon Wolfert yesterday about another company he was involved with in the early 70`s called MUSIC K (Chris Kershaw formed this company) – Chris is a singer at JAM.
Like everyone else who`s posted on this thread – I`m a big JAM fan, however, I also admire what Chris Kershaw did with Music K as their jingle sound is identical to JAM and Music K created that “sound” first.
Sorry to throw a spanner in the works…..but…..is JAM a clone of Music K ???
JAM bought all the rights to Music K in 1976. JAM also took some of the cuts from Music K`s Back To Basics and they found there way into the You`ve Got package – i.e. “Smile with us in the morning……” and other cuts.
I am pleased to tell you that Jon mentioned to me – an upcoming double-CD of classic JAM demos will be released soon – including “You`ve Got It” and many other demos that have not been availble on CD before.

March 11, 2004 at 1:56 pm #23747OnyxPaulMemberThis is all a bit of a revelation to me (and to many Jam fans I’m sure). Does anybody have a demo from Music K they can post?
March 11, 2004 at 3:55 pm #23750JingleMadMemberI have the Music K demo called “Back To Basics” which after JAM bought the copyrights to Music K – they renamed it as “Basics” – it is listed on the JAM website package-index as: Basics – Various 1974.
I cannot upload this to jinglemad – if you would like an Mp3 copy of Music K`s “Back To Basics” – get in touch and I`ll send it to you via email

March 12, 2004 at 6:10 am #23756AdminI’ve heard the original demo from Music K. It does have the ‘Jam sound’. The Q101 Chicago cuts are awesome.
You will find it hard to tell the difference.

March 12, 2004 at 10:11 am #23759JingleMadMemberPleased to report that I`ve had 12 enquiries so far (that`s only since yesterday) about the Music K demo – 3 of them from the States !
I still maintain the theory that JAM is a clone of Music K of Dallas, Texas.
The instrumentation, the percussion, the vocal harmonies and music composition is identical to the “JAM sound” and of course as previously stated – Music K pre-dates JAM.
As you can hear on the Music K demo – the first several cuts from the demo were adapted by JAM for their You`ve Got It demo.

After listening to the tracks I would have to agree with you . . . and I feel a little sad that the classic sound of JAM is a rip off of someone elses work !!
March 13, 2004 at 11:38 am #23766JingleMadMemberthe other demos I have from Chris Kershaw/Music K which all sound like JAM – include:
WOHO (Back To Basics package)
Music K Commercials
KNBR
Rock FM (no not the one in the North West of England !)
WABK
WKQX “Chicago Suite”
Kershaw-West Spots 1979
Omega RoughSince I don`t have a jingle webpage – can I take this opportunity to plug my jingle-list again. If you want an update – email me at

March 13, 2004 at 5:03 pm #23767GrahamCollinsI would guess that part of the reason why Music K and JAM sounded the same was because a large part of the production process involved the same freelance talents bought together by the ‘jingle company’ to complete the package.
Writers, musicians and singers in those early days would be paid on a contract basis to work on specific projects that fit their skills and experience.
Studio facilities too were hired as and when required.
Whatever – It’s the sound that has lasted.
March 13, 2004 at 6:53 pm #23770DJWould it be possible for one of the people david has sent this to be able to upload this file to jinglemad ?
I ordered my 1st Jam jingle 10 Years ago and listening to now it still sounds great,
For me TM and JAM have both stood the test of time .
JAM has always been my favourite company partly because when you order something from them it is always a quality product and not something that is thrown together.
In 30 Years time how many of the Hip sounding UK Jingle company’s will still be around and will we still want to listen to there jingles !

Now this IS a good thread
Here’s another example (on a smaller scale than Tracy’s)
Originally an ULLMAN Jingle from 1962 then 12 years later a JAM Package called “Nifty Fifties” (resang for Ken R whilst at WOHO!)http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pete.wilson60/nifty.mp3
This has given me an idea for another interesting thread đŸ˜‰
March 15, 2004 at 12:13 pm #23775InfernoI didnt know about Music K. One thing that niggles me though is the fact that Jon Wolfert didnt make any reference to Music K in the 20 years of Jam cd. If he works closely with Chris Kershaw you’d think he’d say something.

I still think that Vibe/Music 4 is the EMISON of the 21st century! Least Steve England varies his sound if the Primetime and Saga pakages are anything to go by!
