Hate to be a moaner, but unfortunately all ITV News themes are library music meaning that it shouldn’t be available to the public.

Only the older ITV news themes are classed as library music. After the copyright on them ran out, they became part of KPM’s production music repertoire. The current themes are still licensed exclusively to ITN/ITV News.

all jingles are copyright material but it doesnt stop them being posted willy nilly……thank god!

Why do people have this obsession with Library Music? So what? It’s no more illegal (i.e. not very) to post production music than Shakira’s new single or a jingle which belongs to the BBC or something.

And for your information, “Ants”, not ALL of the current ITV News themes are library. 😉 There are plenty that aren’t on there!!

Well, um, actually, you could be in trouble for owning library music. You see, to use it (including copying it to your PC), you officially need an MCPS licence, which covers the actual mechanical process of recording/manipulating/editing/storage (hence Mechanical Copyright Protection Society).

Working as a creative producer, we have to pay everytime we use a piece of production music on our radio commercials. If a client wants to use that music on their on-hold systems, or on their website, there are additional costs to pay to the MCPS.

As for being no more illegal than to post Shakira’s new single… I think you’ll find that’s actually VERY illegal!

Just my twopenneth. Not saying which side of the fence I sit on, because I’m not the copyright police and therefore my opinion doesn’t matter… that’s the MCPS’ job!

Hence why I deleted the files from Rapidshare because I knew somebody would have a moan at these particular themes being posted.

I left them on Rapidshare for a week to give chance for those in need to download them. They could have stayed on Rapidshare indefinately but I removed them before copyright preachers had chance to report the links.

Sorry guys but that life. There’s always “one” isnt there : but thats all it takes to spoil it for the rest.

Yeah, well, so long as you don’t look upon me as moaning or preaching copyright… I only posted my comments to enlighten people re the whole production music vs copyright system. Thought it might be interesting to know, that’s all. I’m certainly not moaning or preaching – I trust your last reply didn’t mean to imply that I am!

You can rest assured I was not refering to you “danjamesuk”. Your comments were an education to us all on the copyright issues of posting such material and they are appreciated. As I quoted in my previous comments “There’s always one and it only takes one………………..” was not referring to you or your comments. It was a general comment as all posters are bound to tread on someones toes soon or later and who else lurks around unnoticed in forums such as these. Beware!!!!
