I'm as shoked about this as you are.
KOST 103.5 will drop Jam on monday and go with RW One AC and will have the same Jam logo they still use.
This is the same for WNIC Detroit. RW One with the
Thoughts?WLIT logo on monday.
July 23, 2009 at 12:18 am #68582nostalgieNo no no… tell me that it's not true. If it's right, it's a nightmare. A “Real One”…
JAM deserves better fate than that in my opinion. Hope that you could feel my sorrow. I was so proud of my KOST personal jingle, thinking “this is a great & faithful radio”…
I am totally speechless tonight.

WHAT A MISTAKE.July 23, 2009 at 2:05 am #68585GlennaMemberThere stuff is not that good.
It almost sounds like under cutting everybody with their prices.July 23, 2009 at 3:11 am #68586AdminBeaver205 wrote:

It almost sounds like under cutting everybody with their prices. Not really. We have Reelworld One AC in Dubai and it ain't cheap. RW1 AC is a strong product and works VERY well on air.
As a fan yes I do like the JAM stuff for KOST (in fact REALLY like) but they have been with them since 1984. There's nothing wrong with a radio station wanting to change their sound after all this time.

Here's the announcement:
http://tweetmeme.com/bar/118598875July 23, 2009 at 6:43 am #68588coolntIf it's for the betterment of KOST, then it's a good choice.
July 23, 2009 at 7:22 am #68589RobinBlamiresIt has been a long time but from a personal point of view the JAM KOST jingles have barely progressed and don't sound any different now to how they did 15 years ago.
The Reelworld package should be interesting although I'll try not to pre-judge it.
July 23, 2009 at 8:09 am #68590LenGroat'JAM KOST jingles have barely progressed'
Van Gogh painted over 30 versions of his iconic 'Sunflowers' ~ he did not need to 'progress'
What is SO GOOD about 'progress' ~ THAT is what has killed radio in Britain and America…
July 23, 2009 at 8:22 am #68591RobinBlamiresThis coming from someone living in Portugal where UK and US radio can't even be recieved!
(Taking online out of the picture)Times change, and in some rare cases for the better.
The company's not called “Reelworld” for nothing! Not that all their stuff's perfect of course but the fact that the KOST melody logo remains is something I'm content with.
We may be pleasantly surprised….
July 23, 2009 at 8:29 am #68592ratnobMemberLet's just wait and see what the new sound is like …
July 23, 2009 at 9:45 am #68594ratnobMemberThey've flipped. Suddenly KOST sounds like a thousand other stations. I heard Karen Sharp 3 hours ago and it was JAM; here's what I heard 5 minutes ago …

An era has ended.
July 23, 2009 at 9:57 am #68595BarrasThey say it never rains in Southern California but there`s a dark cloud over KOST…

I think you have forgotten we have INTERNET in the world now – so I can (if I wish) listen to WOGL Philadelphia, or any one of 100s of North American radio stations ON-LINE
Of course those 'suits' in British commercial radio management have not been clever enough yet to negotiate that their audio be available on-line outside Britain on the net, but EVERY BBC station IS
On Sundays I could listen to David Lloyd on the morning show on BBC Radio Nottingham. I gave David his first job in 1979, he has since RUN, Leicester Sound, Lincs FM, LBC, Galaxy, Virgin… and as I'm sure you know is now running many commercial stations in the Midlands. We have always kept in touch so OF COURSE I KNOW what is happening in radio.
The Internet (including this very good site) means I know more, and hear more radio in 2009, than when I was IN it between 1974 and 1994.
Your sweeping assumption that progress = improvement does not 'hold water' with the current state of radio around the World.
Thank you.

POSTSCRIPT
Thanks for posting that cut I heard it after I'd made this post.
Surprise Surprise
The logo melody at the front sounds like a syndicted package made for a 'W' call sign station.
It has that 100% CLICHE ending of a screeechy UP note used on EVERY cut made by companies like Reelworld.
I programmed music with jingles for 25 years and an UP note does NOT work into a record with a down/quiet intro, which is what KOST play!
Let's see how long the female PD lasts….
July 23, 2009 at 10:12 am #68597freq-kyI'm a bit gobsmacked to hear about this and yes it's a crying shame that they've broken their partnership with JAM.
Having heard the bit Geoff supplied from Bobs podcast. That shotgun cut doesn't work too well with that hook.I'm sure Reelworld could have come up with better.
If WLIT uses this package,no problem at all.
July 23, 2009 at 10:14 am #68598coolntJAM deserves the recognition. KOST deserves a great sound.
The real mistake is when radio stops evolving.

I think ReelWorld ONE should add KOST to the list of logos – in addition to WLIT, Mix 92.9, Lite FM, and Sunny.

I have been listening to UK commercial stations online since I moved away from the UK and that was over 6 years ago. Also, pretty much all of them are available via a wifi/internet radio.
KOST is a solid station and the AC format has evolved over the years. When I launched my Coast back in March, KOST was one of the stations we modelled it on minus the JAM jingles.
July 23, 2009 at 10:45 am #68602ratnobMemberHere's another 30 mins. Listen out for the top of the hour (still JAM):

Musically, it's sounding like a totally different station.

Oh goodness that's shocking.
I'll take everything from earlier back.
Even someone who doesn't play an instrument can tell that the melody logo's changed and it's barely distinctive from any other Reelworld AC package.
That really does define inconsistent and proves why the JAM cuts would have worked better in that function.
July 23, 2009 at 10:54 am #68604LenGroatIt happens on MANY of the MUSIC stations from Britain:to quote Capitol 95.8 two minutes ago..
'It looks like you're trying to listen to our radio station from outside the UK. Unfortunately, due to music-licensing laws, we aren't permitted to allow non-UK users to listen to our stations online.'
Since this topic is getting emotive I will finish here; except to say that though it might be 'sad' for JAM, no one will EQUAL Jon Wolfert's creativity for this station with such beautiful, lovingly made, usable jingles…
Let's see how many DECADES Reelworld makes the jingles for KOST ?
July 23, 2009 at 11:09 am #68605ratnobMemberDo listen to this longer aircheck (may have got lost in earlier posts):

You maybe right David. Can't say I'm impressed by what I've heard so far. I wonder what the listeners think?
July 23, 2009 at 12:46 pm #68609tophour_brianMemberClear Channel has shoved some pretty questionable decisions down KOST's throat over the past few years — splitting up a 20+ year morning show, firing the midday jock who'd been there since sign-on, and a few more. If I were a betting man, I'd put money that this wasn't a local decision. The PD has been there a long time — she was Jhani Kaye's assistant before he left KOST the first time and if she hadn't pulled JAM off already, she wasn't going to.
I have RW One on both of my stations — including my AC, which I switched to from JAM for a number of reasons — but this truly sucks. It's the end of an era.
