I was having dinner with Michael Berlin over the weekend and I asked him why IQ hadn’t done any personal cuts.
He looked at me, chewed his Blue Cheeseburger for a moment and said, “I don’t know… think we should?â€
I said “Hell yes!â€
I then went on to tell him I would post the news on jinglemad. He called me an anorak, snorted and drank another beer.
OK… so the deal is this. IQ will do your personal cuts, with pricing dependant on the vocal group. Solos are obviously cheaper than the Dallas group. Getting your cuts is based on session timing. They won’t schedule a session just for your cut, but since they’re so busy it should be long before they get you in. I believe the cuts will be priced between $300 and $350. That’s up to you to discuss with Michael.
Oh yeah… they’re not for broadcast use. But you already knew that.
Have at it boys and girls.
September 6, 2007 at 5:45 am #32542simon_t123MemberCool ! Tell me someone, are we talking “not for broadcast” as per the other guys not for broadcast but CAN be used on non commercial / not for profit / hobby type internet radio ? Thats a clincher for some I'd imagine, great idea tho' good luck with it :o)

September 6, 2007 at 10:41 pm #32608JingleMadMemberOh my lord, would kill for a re-sing of this baby
Allthough the lyrics could pose a slight problem.

Personally, I am not sure I could justify to the wife and my nine kids spending £150-£175 on one of these luxuries lol.
Especially when you consider ijingles $225, Radioscape $253, JAM $275 (a recent price increase), so perhaps Michael would have to make them a little more competitive pricewise to acheive it's maximum potential
However, at the end of the day (and the top of the morning), you get what you pay for, and I should know about that believe me lol!!
Good luck with the venture though.

A price increase??!!! We must stop going on about how great the £ to US$ exchange rate is at the moment !! !lolBeing serious though, it would be interesting to know why Jon W decided to increase the price on personal cuts, especially that a number of UK members of this forum order multiples of them.
Paul.
September 8, 2007 at 7:57 am #32648mbMemberThere are some fantastic IQ cuts that I'd consider getting.
BTW does any one have the Ian Lee tracks from the IQ Beats website I never got round to downloading them and in thier website refresh they've all been taken off ( Despite the header saying Ianin Lee ) ?
I think they should put them back on and they are some of the best imaging cuts for LBC.September 8, 2007 at 7:34 pm #32665BearHmmm. I just ordered 11 cuts and visited JAM during the recording and mixing sessions in July. I hope the price increase didn't have anything to do with me !shy
Anyway, JAM is a leader in the Personal Cuts market … and they are worth the price

I assume the Price Increase is to cover Jon’s time as he does spend a lot of time on the personal cuts
I can recall several times when he has suggested several improvements to the original lyrics that I originally came up with
Without out these suggestions, I know the finished jingles would not have sounded as goodAny chance of posting your personal cuts Terry
September 9, 2007 at 1:07 pm #32686BearI tried to upload a montage of them a few days ago, but they aren't posted yet
I've just gotten my own domain setup and I will try to post it there and add a link here.

September 9, 2007 at 1:29 pm #32687BearHopefully this link will work. This will be the first time I've tried to use the new domain to host files.
I call this a collage. It's a montage but also the cuts are edited in some cases and also transitions to music are included as well as other sfx.
If the link works, let me know what you think.

Jon has done a great job with your personal cuts !
liked your Montage mixed with the music you are going to use the cuts with
The 1st transication Perfect !
Was the Last accapella a custom or something you have mixed your self from all the mix outs ?

Martin
September 9, 2007 at 5:02 pm #32697bland75MemberTerry,
That is a great collage – superb mixing and of course, top quality personal cuts from JAM. Jon did a cracking job on those and I agree with Martin in that the first transition is excellent. Thanks for posting them.
Cheers Paul.

Agreed – these sound fantastic. I've just drawn up my shortlist of the next JAM cuts I want to purchase … but your brilliant montage of cuts has made me rethink! Which package is that first cut from?
Love them all – you must be thrilled with them.

September 9, 2007 at 6:11 pm #32705BearThanks
I've come to believe that Jon always does a fantastic job on anything he works on. Also everyone I met at JAM seems to go above and beyond. They are great people and I really enjoyed my visit with them.
As for that first transition, did you realize that the jingle music is actually based on that song? The song is called Steal Away and it's sung by Robbie Dupree. It was in the U.S. pop charts in 1980 for 23 weeks … and peaked at #2. It seems to have been an inspiration for the jingle which is part of the “Special Touch” package which JAM released around 1981. The drum intro makes it pretty easy to work with in a transition. Especially when the jingle is a dead on match for the song This jingle features the voice of Mike Collier and smaller vocal group “B”. All the other cuts are by the 7 voice group.
I added the flanging and echo/repeat in that first jingle. Jon's original work is cleaner … but I like this one spiced up a bit too.
The jingle before the song “Tired Of Toein' The Line” also appears to have been inspired by the song that I've paired it with. It's from the same time period and jingle package.
Of course the Disco jingle/song mix is definitely a hack. I used bits from the mixouts of the jingles to mix it. Several other hacks are included. I'm afraid I like to “Play” with jingles as much as I like to listen to them :p
And yes, the last cut is really just the KAT acapellas from the various cuts I bought. I just put them all together and overlapped them a bit. I think it shows an interesting variety of vocal treatments.
Here's a picture of me and my daughter with the 7-voice group:

September 9, 2007 at 7:15 pm #32708NickySMemberI like everyone else love the cuts Terry and certainly not off topic. The first one is probably my favourite as well.
September 9, 2007 at 8:10 pm #32713Good Time OldieI guess we should apologise to Mr Walker here, afterall, he started this thread regarding “IQ Beats Personal Cuts”, and once again we have ambushed it by singing the praises of the wonderful Jon W and JAM.
Mr Walker, I think it would be a great idea if Michael and IQ started their own Personal Cuts programme, but as I said earlier, it would have to be at a reasonable price for me to take up their offer (say $250).
Good luck though.
The Gobby 1
P.S Terry, I too love the cuts, especially the Rocky Burnett “Toein' the line” one, congrats on a great selection.
September 9, 2007 at 9:14 pm #32718IainJohnstonMemberTerry & Family – those JAM re-sings are pure CLASS!
Regardless of the debate of Reelworld/JAM/IQ on this
thread, all I can say is that whatever the price for
Personal Cuts between the different Companies,
ONLY JAM can deliver that quality of singing &
harmonies – superb!(…..where's my Credit Card before Jon puts the price up again!…….?)
September 10, 2007 at 1:16 am #32723BearSorry for the sweeping sidebar in this thread. I didn't mean to distract from the original topic.
I will post a new thread in the Download Montages forum and we can take any more discussion of my enthusiasm for my new JAM personal cuts there.
Thanks everyone for the positive feedback.
Here's a link to the new thread … please post any further related discussion there. I'm happy to hear your input.

No problem. I don't work for IQ, I've bought a LOT of cuts from them and have become friends with Michael, Steve and the rest of the crew. I read that there was some interest in Personal Cuts from IQ and I asked Michael about it. After he said they'd do 'em if there was interest, I posted. I don't set the price schedule… and remember, this discussion was held over burgers and beer…
If you want some cool personal cuts, call him. If not… don't.
