Something caught my ear this afternoon listening to Invicta. There was what sounded like a newly created cut of xmas imaging (with the usual Dave Kelly v/o) but with what was definately an accapella from the legendary Steamroller resings package of 1990 to bring the cut to a close.

Ha, I only made them on Monday, and only started getting aired yesterday afternoon… Amazing how quick things get picked up, your ears don’t decieve you, it is indeed the Steamroller package (cut 13 Invicta xmas resing to be precise) , As I’m a Composer for TM century (as well as being presenter/producer at invicta), I’ve been given permission to remix the cuts and use on air, I may even have a go in the new year at remixing/modernising some of the “Non xmas cuts” to bring back that heritage sound from the early 90’s that people in kent still sing when we do vox pops.

It just goes to show how strong a jingle package can be although it hasn’t been used for over 10 years. Whenever I hear a cut by a station which has a similar melody logo i.e. 102.7 KIIS FM, the Invicta FM Steamroller jingles immediatley come to mind and they could have built upon this by buying some more cuts from TM Century around the time from some of their KIIS packages to complement the existing set.

My new JAM jingles are even based around that melody logo save from the first note!

Go on Dave… re-hash Main Themes 13 and 98 and make the TOTH sound totally awesome… if you can get away with it…

I don’t suppose you have any of the 1985/86/87 Invicta Alfasound material (old carts etc) lurking at Invicta in Whitstable do you Dave ?

If Dave can find good quality copies of the Alfasound ‘you’ve got it right’, then a remix of the instrumental cuts with Dave Kelly v/o’ers/imaging would be a fantastic way of mixing heritage with now!

Probably be licensing issues with them being Alfasound though and then there would management to get past……….. 😆

Think it would be a sure fire brand idendity winner for the station.

The station is still very 80s and 90s heavy so the cuts will work great – steamroller is one the best CHR/Hot AC packages available.

You could always post them on here first and we’ll give ’em the ok…!! 😆

The whole idea of recycling these packages seems like fun and there’s no doubting the heritage value of those sung packages, as you pointed out.

Does anyone know the terms of sale of Alfasound packages? Buyout, or licence period? My impression was that they weren’t restricted, but I suppose even if they were, if they get logged on air correctly when they’re played no-one would mind.

Dave, any chance you could post (or link to) those steamroller remixes you’ve done please?!
