Lisa, I would say I am persistent more than “obsessive”…yes, the fact is I WANT the jingle and if I just sit and not “post” not (do anything) my request will get lost in the crowd. I am simply holding up a sign….”Does anyone have this jingle?” I have patience, not much, but I do…
Nothing to be scared of Lisa, unless you are thinking about Halloween? LOLOctober 29, 2009 at 10:18 am #70888topcatOkay…. Reality is that you're best leaving the post, as you did, on the request form.
FYI… Many of the original PAMS reels were scattered to the wind after the original company went out in 1978. That which still exists from the “main stash” has been transferred to DAT (and eventually, CD) by KenR, me and others. However, that is not all of the tapes that were pulled out of the 'warehouse' before the balance were dumpstered. There are several other “collectors” who got a run at them before the remaining stash were trashed.
Having said this… I have a database of the original reels pulled out of there along with a set of the transfers. Many of the original reels sit collecting dust bunnies in my basement and in the hands of other collectors. Unfortunately, the collection is far from complete.
Unless, by chance, the reel you were looking for was saved by someone else who cared about the station… or whose eye was caught by the reel… it is likely buried in a landfill somewhere.
I'm fortunate in that my “holy grails” have been realized. In fact, I've been house cleaning lately… putting aside extra copies (reels and CDs) of items that I've been giving away or otherwise placing in deep storage. It's great to collect this stuff, but it does take up MASSIVE space.
Good luck on your quest… but personally I think your best bet is to watch eBay to see if the 45rpm single shows up. Odds are the original reel is history.
October 29, 2009 at 12:17 pm #70891Digital EdTracy, Thanks for your reply! I have spoke to on many occasions the owner and general manager of KDOK, now KTBB talk radio in Tyler where the jingle was customized for back in 61. He told me that they do not have a copy of it but remembers the 45 single sitting on a shelf for a long time in the studio. It was put on “cart” at one time but thats history now.
Yes, good idea on Ebay, IF I get lucky. I do feel there is a good copy out there somewhere and will not dismiss PAMS not having it until I hear from them. As mentioned before, Jenkins recorded many of them, but KNUZ in Houston (the pioneer promoter) was the only station to produce more copies than any other town did. -
