WABC radio “77” in New York City, once the most listened to radio station on the planet, and the foundation of hundreds of PAMS jingles, suffered years of dreadful management after the purchase by Disney.WABC radio fell from a long and respected #1 to the bottom of the market.
Making it necessary for the last owner to dump the broadcast icon….for around 10 million USD.$$. John ‘Cats’, a local, 1st generation Greek having built a successful food business in New York, bought WABC radio and set out to return WABC to the days of glory he remembered and loved (and listened to as a boy).
John ‘Cats’ returned music to WABC and all those PAMS jingles were brought back to air. Also returning were WABC’s “music radio” d.j.’s, and niche programs featuring Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Tony Orlando. The ratings are in, and WABC has moved to the top of its catagory.
John ‘Cats’ does a week day round table program with news people and political guests. At the end of the show he and the guests sign off with “God bless America”, which was expanded this week with the addition of “God Save the King”.
