It aired on Radio Shropshire and Magic 828 – did cuts make it to any other UK stations?
Embedded at home.recnet.com/soundcloud
Shame Magic 828 didn’t have the song sung with some great Leeds and West Yorkshire landmarks.
February 24, 2015 at 8:57 pm #97294radio_blokeMemberI love the package but I just didn’t recognise Iain’s version, must be a lite mix with the girls missing.
February 24, 2015 at 9:03 pm #97295pvankleiMemberThe magic of Boston is a very nice package. In The Netherlands used by Radio Veronica.

The version “aired” on the “showcase” is a bit of digital jiggery-pokery on my part – well done for spotting it!
Sean thought of moving that first line of my lyric to the very front instead of the middle; makes my version quite unique possibly?
While playing around with the mixes I moved it to the END and shuffled it over the “track” I’d reverse-engineered from the 2 front & end tagged mixouts
(as heard under my audio). “students” of late 1980s/early 90s TM will remember that many TM 2-line-lyric cuts would often be provided mixed-out that way
– just crying out for a “cut & shut” edit-job to “create” a pure “instrumental” version “backwards” on any such cut.The old WIND Chicago logo as used on the MAgic of Boston is probably one of the most “melodic” in Jingle-Land.
February 24, 2015 at 11:35 pm #97298SpoonsLove these latest posts. @LenGroat – great song. Always loved that package and toyed with the idea of trying to lyric the up tempo song on Magic of Boston.
That is stunning! Really upbeat and a reminder of the golden era of ILR. Love the strings-only version of the “Synchronism” cut.
Thanks Robin – I loved this era of Century 21/TMCI jingles. So many stations were using them along with JAM.
The Synchronism cut was bought in 2012 – and I asked them to boost the strings in the mix – a bit like Chiltern had done in the 80s. Between Sean and I, the idea for a strings only mix was born… and I love it. Incidentally, that shorter version is a mix I put together myself. The full strings-only cut is obviously much longer.
A superb collection Spoons – particularly love the Synchronism + the one I tagged – which I can only recall as ‘1 0 2 point sev-en – W -blah -blah -blah’ !
102.7 WMXJ… I loved this package especially as it was sung for Magic 828 in Leeds. I remember getting the C21 demo from David Arnold in 1990 containing this package and played it over and over again.
@Spoons
1:40~1:42 – Your name fits the intro so perfectly. Awesome vocal too.
And that’s why I put in a very, very last minute order because I figured I couldn’t let one of my favourite cuts from Magic 828 slip by. My name lends itself beautifully to weather cuts. In fact my shortlist contains many of them simply because Spooner and weather fit so well!
Great cuts and lyrics – we must think alike as I reckon there are about 6 or 7 we’ve both ordered I still those cuts sound as hot and fresh as they did years ago if anything I’ve grown to appreciate them more.
Couldn’t agree more!
February 27, 2015 at 10:36 pm #97307radio_blokeMemberA little quiz for you! Can you spot the difference?
February 27, 2015 at 10:53 pm #97308jonnoMemberStrings!
Loving all these personal cuts… the more I hear, the more insanely jealous I am becoming
February 27, 2015 at 10:57 pm #97309radio_blokeMemberClose… dig deeper jonno
February 27, 2015 at 11:04 pm #97311jonnoMemberwill have to dig the cans out.. listening on a laptop’s tinny speakers with the TV on in the background
February 27, 2015 at 11:33 pm #97312radio_blokeMemberOk closer still….. a little less guitar as well.
A clue is to think about the British versions of this cut……….February 28, 2015 at 9:47 am #97313SpoonsYeah – I would say here you’ve laid the acca over a Muff Murfin remix of the track. He often remixed TM tracks for his British clients. Maybe the 2CR Classic Gold mix or similar?
The 2CR version is awash with reverb on the drums, the timpani’s stripped away, guitar part reduced and most importantly the STRINGS boosted!
The best Muff Murfin remix of the track in my opinion is the version for Chiltern/Northants. Still remains a holy grail.
February 28, 2015 at 10:49 am #97316IainJohnstonI’d thought that was a “Frankenstein Mix” too (yes, some of us DO mess about sticking acapella mixouts over “other tracks”, and other daftness…)
But a damn neatly done one Rick!Coincidently, I’ve heard several full or semi “naked” dubs of that particular cut recently from completely diverse sources, and some of those dubs do seem to be remixed from the source multitrack at some era, no doubt indeed by someone with “a good ear” so that has to have been Muff Murfin if from an ILR perspective. Some older US sttaion ones do also have “more strings” or “less brass”.
I would have liked mine on a different mixout or two also if the opportunity had been available. Still…Others – “emphasis” of instrumentation on some of them to my ears at least has telltale signs of audio compression and/or EQ band mucking about.
And “swishing” once digitized f(MP3 not WAV?) from old tape or even (shock horror) cassette.February 28, 2015 at 11:43 am #97317radio_blokeMemberYeah – I would say here you’ve laid the acca over a Muff Murfin remix of the track. The Golden Anorak is awarded to Spoons
Yes the first version was “as delivered” & the second was indeed, the aca on top of the TM/MMI/Standard Sounds mix (thanks to MIKE for supplying the muff mix)Must say thanks to Spoons for sharing the string only version. As soon as I heard it, I was on the hot line to Sean who managed to get me (by the skin of teeth) a string only mix.
February 28, 2015 at 12:17 pm #97321Spoons@radio_bloke – aww shucks. Zzzzip!
No worries on the inspiration – the strings only mix is great. I love mine.
@IainJohnston – yes, some processing there too definitely.
When I asked about the cut in the first place, Sean checked that they were working from a multi-track and it turned out they were for Synchronism cut 8, so we were able to tinker with the instrumentation – boosting the strings and also doing the strings-only mix.

Soddit!
I would have liked a “timpani-free, higher brass” mix for a start – but certain “other factors” got a wee bit bogged-down lets just say, and that was it.Still, the rest sounded otherwise excellent, and what Sean came up with for my Magic cut 3 is probably unique.
(Anyone listening to my JAM cuts over the past few years will notice I like to find a way of having them with some kind
of “twist” that won’t have been heard on any version before…)Do we know if the iJingles Sessions have now been completed?
I know my cuts were sung a wee bit sooner than I’d expected, so I have to assume TM really were having “complete” sessions to handle Sean’s influx of orders rather than just “piggy-backing” on to “commecial client sessions” as would have been the usual practice?February 28, 2015 at 7:10 pm #97331radio_blokeMemberFrom a recent session, May I offer you some Tanner.
My thanks to Sean, Greg, Kay, Bruce, Annagrey, jeff & the unsung engineer.February 28, 2015 at 7:19 pm #97332RobinBlamiresI missed a trick there. Reminds me of getting excited about a CD my Dad had of Dexy’s cover of TSOP recorded live for BBC Radio 1, with the Radio 1 logo on the back cover.
February 28, 2015 at 8:38 pm #97334SpoonsFabulous – particularly love the first one.

March 2, 2015 at 1:01 pm #97341mbMemberI’m still awaiting some cuts too
March 2, 2015 at 2:15 pm #97342CanadaJim…and my final cut is to scheduled to be sung on Thursday 5th
March 2, 2015 at 3:29 pm #97344bossjockMemberPerhaps when all the cuts are in from this last ijingles “window” we can start up a new thread and post (or re-post) all the re-sings done since the closure was announced. This thread has become rather long and difficult to follow on some platforms

Funny you should say that as I was going to ask Admin if when you click on a thread it Jumps to the end instead of the Start as its a pain to follow this on Iphone !
March 2, 2015 at 6:37 pm #97347SpoonsI agree. New thread would be great… or we could just use the shorter thread which just contains personal cuts.
March 2, 2015 at 8:05 pm #97351Spoons“Personal cuts (share yours)” it’s called.
