      Hi folks,

I was wondering in how many different ways jingles are used on air. I read somewhere in here that in the US jingles are used more to segue between songs, and that in the UK they’re used more to come out of stopsets. So I wondered how you guys all use your jingles. When do you use full ramps, transitions and shotguns. And how do you use your alternative mixes. etc.

      Looking forward to your comments!

Here at Channel 4 we use the sung cuts as well as the sweepers to segue between songs. Coming out of stopsets we tend to use the shotguns that are part of our package. Although we have the Reelworld ramps, we don’t use them that much.

There are also positioners that are used to segue. These are 30 secs in duration & include grabs from some of the new music that we play, for example – http://s11.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=7D24FB81B7F9A56B65EEEE44E74584BE

If a station ends on a promo that is tagged with the station name, then they go straight to the next song, no jingle needed.

The way it’s done in the UK and the US is pretty much what you mentioned. Z100 New York use ‘image kickers’ to get them out of stopsets.
