Just been watching a BBC TV news report (don`t think BBC iPlayer can be seen outside of the UK) about Dallas where a tornado has just struck…
April 4, 2012 at 4:03 pm #83329bobgreenradioMemberpretty impressive mess huh? the truck stop pic was something else! and i wondered first if the twisters worked through a limited zone or were all over. they say 12 twisters set down. and worse, its alrealy flat there so these clouds can travel long distances
April 4, 2012 at 6:15 pm #83333glenBut its too bad alot of people lost everything.
April 5, 2012 at 12:55 am #83342TommyI live in Dallas and it doesn’t seem like our favorite jingle companies were in the path of yesterday’s tornadoes. The hardest hit areas were Arlington (where the Dallas Cowboys play), Lancaster (20 miles south of Dallas) and Forney (about 20 miles east of Dallas.) Still not confirmed yet the number of tornadoes, but it’ll likely be around 12 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
It was definitely scary for a couple hours yesterday and many of the seasoned weather forecasters had said they had never seen anything like this. I’m actually a news reporter in Dallas and covered the destruction in Forney.. The place looked like something out of a movie.
And yes, there were hundreds of people who lost everything, the amazing story is that no one was killed.
April 5, 2012 at 1:12 am #83343bobgreenradioMemberwell around here 20 miles can get you to the next state, but in the ft worth/big d metroplex 20 miles really isnt anything. the reports here last night were a dozen twisters were counted, and seeing cars in mid air is maybe the strangest thing yet.
do you know if normal houses held up ok? i gathered from reports here the total wipeout zones were through mobile home parks. theres just no way to secure those things well. its hard to believe no loss of life. thats fantastic newsApril 5, 2012 at 1:21 am #83344BarrasGoes without saying, thank GOD there was no loss of life, however, as a jingle-related topic, I know that several years ago, TM had a lot of their reel masters shipped up to Tracy Carman at the Media Preservation Foundation in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, yet there are still hundreds (probably thousands) of CD masters at TM in Dallas. As far as I know, JAM doesn`t have any duplication of their masters, which are housed in a room, fondly known to JAM fans as “The Vault”…

I`m one of those collectors lucky enough to have visited “The Vault” and in reality, it is amazing collection of reels and DATs storing EVERY JAM jingle ever created, it doesn`t bear thinking about if a tornado was to hit the JAM facility, in fact, the thought would make nightmares for me.
April 5, 2012 at 1:30 am #83346TommyWhile mobile home parks were hit, your typical one/two story brick homes were also targeted. I posted a couple pics on my Twitter feed – http://www.twitter.com/tommynoel ..
And yes, the thought of a tornado hitting JAM would cause nightmares! I haven’t been by the building.. (not in the best part of town!) but from the pictures it looks pretty sturdy!
April 5, 2012 at 1:39 am #83347TServo2049When I heard about the tornadoes, my first thought was the same as the rest of you. Remember that Tracy’s archives *were* hit by a tornado last year.
April 5, 2012 at 1:45 am #83349bobgreenradioMemberyeah, the problem he has is the river valley runs down his ‘back yard’ and when 1 of these storms pops up it skims the edge of the river. springfield was klobbered. were far enough north to have mountains all about to break the twister movement. and, its a lot colder here
April 5, 2012 at 8:54 am #83359tyty21my first thought exactly! is the jam and tm buildings OK? seriously!
