        Sad news indeed.

How many of these original nineteen ILR broadcasting companies still exist, making local radio for their TSA ?

        LBC
        CAPITAL RADIO
        RADIO CLYDE
        BRMB
        PICCADILLY RADIO
        METRO RADIO
        SWANSEA SOUND
        RADIO HALLAM
        RADIO CITY
        RADIO FORTH
        PLYMOUTH SOUND
        RADIO TEES
        RADIO TRENT
        PENNINE RADIO
        RADIO VICTORY
        RADIO ORWELL
        RADIO 210
        DOWNTOWN RADIO
        BEACON RADIO

In some form or other only 9 of the original station names still around and on air; LBC, Capital, Clyde, Metro, Swansea Sound, Hallam, City, Forth & Downtown.

But how many of those really are local anymore?

Metro Radio have just announced the end of Night Owls. This show has been running since Len bought the PAMS cut for James Whale in 1975.

Being replaced with chillout music, apparently.

Feels like it’s just one step away from maximum networking and Hits Radio rollout. So, to answer Graham’s question – there can’t be much original ilr left

LBC is national now it has no London focussed programming or content
/ Ditto Capital other than a drivetime opt out
Rumor is the Bauer stations are close to becoming Hits Radio

They’d fit KTU really well. Almost worth producing a demo for the American 3 call letter market.

Isn’t KTU actually WKTU (4 Call Letters) ?

That’s correct, they just drop the “W” from their on-air branding as a lot of stations do. (When they use call letters outside of the legal ID at all, that is).

That’s what I meant – they just say KTU, fitting “This is Heart”

“That’s what I meant – they just say KTU, fitting “This is Heart” “

So now we’ve finally reached that point of ad absurdum full-circle or whatever…

The dull “this is x” lyrics of one-syllabl UK station names is because for years the producers
they needed to “fill up” the “station name / call chord pads – which were usually designed
as THREE pads to “support” longer station names or 4-5 or -6 sylabll call-letters etc
to have any chance of syndication, with two extra “words” for pads one and two, with
the dull boring monotone “name” on pad three at the end.

Hence all those “This is…” “Your On…” etc by UK stations/producers/station managements
                            with no imagination.

And for years that has become the de facto “standard” in the UK, since it seems to
have been forgotten by the newbies why all the pointless “This is”‘s etc were put
into the jingles here in the first place!

So, for this to now go “backwards” across the Pond to “fit” any US station’s
                            call/name would be very ironic!

PS – at least the old Radio West jingles circa 1982 (84?) with a 6-note “American”
sounding logo had the imagination to have “Rad-i-o-West-For You” to “fit” the
                            logo melody!

Unless I’m mistaken, the Heart jingles sing “This is Heart” to match the “London’s Heart” jingles.

There are split ID players, so that London gets its own branding, and all the regional stations get a “This is Heart” Network feed from the London studio.

There are/were “Scotland’s Heart” variations – no doubt Mr Park behind that!

Oh Bugger…All these years I thought they were “Singing” THIS IS FART and THIS IS MOULD and even FEEBLE RADIO……;-)

He’s pretty much out the picture – went off sick before all the big changed were announced
