Have been trying to upload this file, but it tells me to bugger off and come back when I know what I am doing. So have posted a link here.
Have I Got News For You (Part 1) is 20-something minutes of news intros from UK commercial radio – mostly from the 80s and early 90s.
It crossed my mind that because there is so much in the montage that I should put up a prize for anyone who could identify all the stations. Ha! Then I remembered David Hemsley. So, no prize.
However, if you have news ID's that you can email me, then feel free, and I will construct Have I Got News for You (Part 2).
Enjoy:

Hope you can re-post it as I would love to hear…February 8, 2007 at 6:49 pm #28945February 8, 2007 at 7:50 pm #28946LotusDavid!
Congratulations! That is truly momentous. It takes ages to put together a montage of that length – much appreciated. I loved the content and also your mix of voices at either end. Did you ever hear Joanna Crosse? She must have had the hottest voice ever to grace IRN. Whatever, thanks for that. Marvellous!

February 9, 2007 at 8:53 am #28952PrometheusThanks chaps – took ages to find the clips of newscasters… again, if you have any – particularly Douglas Cameron and the hot voiced Joanna Crosse, would love to get these for the next installment.

February 9, 2007 at 3:00 pm #28956freq-kyThis is definately “Sit down and play with a pair of headphones”.Spotted 12 readers already (inclusive of a certain former Southern Sound news editor at the very end).
Great stuff David.
It'll be great if on your next one you include a Beacon news jingle played during the late 70s/early 80s loosly based on a cut from the “You” package.
February 9, 2007 at 8:53 pm #28959johnnygHi David – Just had a quick search around & found some Douglas Cameron which you might be able to use. If you drop me a PM & let me know your e-mail address I'll send them to you.

February 20, 2007 at 10:17 am #29042nick_allanThat's an awesome montage! One jingle which really piqued my interest was that which starts at 07:54. My ears pricked up as I noticed that it sounded exactly like the instrumental bit from John Miles' “Music”. A quick google revealed that John Miles did indeed write this jingle for the fledgling “Radio Mercury”. Anyway, after rummaging around on JingleMad.com with my new found knowledge I came across a couple of discussions on these jingles, which, as I understand it, from an Emison package. Not having any knowledge of this package, I was just wondering if it was only the news theme that was lifted from “Music” or did John Miles do anything on the package related to his hit single?
The other interesting jingle occurs at 1:04. This jingle (or a very similar variant) got a new lease of life when it was used in the “Now Show” for a few years as the opener for Jon Holmes' entertainment news section.
Thanks once again for the montage!
February 20, 2007 at 12:54 pm #29043PrometheusHi Nick, thanks for your kind words. The John Miles “Music” piece, as I understood it, was commissioned by a jock (Len Groat, possibly) at Metro Radio, because he was such a fan of the song. I think the Radio Mercury package (which I can supply if this helps) has a 'hint' of John Miles in it, but that piece certainly comes from Metro.
I will check out the cut at 1:04 later and let you know!

February 21, 2007 at 9:24 am #29050PrometheusNick – FYI the cut at 1:04 is the short news intro for Southern Sound, produced by David Arnold. There is a high possibility it was later released as commercial music by Carlin, as David Arnold did this with a number of his themes including LBC and Mercury. But I have no idea of the Jon Holmes relevance.

March 14, 2007 at 10:43 pm #29268nick_allanHi David,
Apologies for the late reply but thanks very much for letting me know where the 1:04 cut came from. I shall now go for a further rummage around the internet to see if I can find a copy of it to listen to!
Cheers,
Nick -
